So I got a goofy question. My wife is going to buy me either my waterproof camera or my fishfinder in a couple weeks. Whichever one I don't get now I will get in march for my B-day. My problem is I can't decide which one I want more at the moment an which one I'm willing to wait a couple months for  :smt005.  So heres the question, which one would you get now?

IMO the finder will help you ID structure, depth and temp, all of which will help you catch fish, which I'm assuming is what you want to take pics of anyway.  Finder=Horse, Camera=Cart.

Plus, you can get a $10 dry bag for a regular camera and pull your camera out after you find and catch the fish - at least that's what I've been doing.  Not ideal, but if you have to choose, I choose the horse.

I'd get the camera.  You don't need to see the fish down there, but WE need to see pics of your fish.  No pics = it never happened!!!

I say fishfinder. I was fishing for stripers in the Petaluma river on new years eve and was told they were in the shallows, up in the slews. I had a camera but no FF. I found a nice little lagoon just south of scholenberger park and started fishing. I hung out for around an hour and not even a nibble. I was doing more bird watching than anything when I noticed the birds in front of me were STANDING UP!!! I was in about "6 of water :smt013. Oh and i was dressed in jeans and nikes. I just made it out w/o getting muddy.

Get the Fishfinder.......and dont be stupid like me :smt044

Camera!
I have caught plenty of fish w/o a FF. I even won Bam IV w/o one; but I have never taken a pic w/o a camera.

+1 you can always stick your paddle in the water to find out if 6" or more :smt003
Trout your trolling top 20' or less this time of yr same for Macks . Bass will be holding to rocky slopes near coves, and the place where you need the fish finder (ocean for rock fish ) will be open by the time you need it.

get the camera-- you don't need a fishfinder until rockfish opens anyway

Yeah, I'd go for a nice camera first!
I mean, what type of yakfishing are you gonna do between now and May anyways..? And that's when you'll need a FF, once RF season reopens. Until then, you don't need a FF to catch crabs (there's a joke in there somewhere!)  :smt044

I made my choice, Gonna go with a Kodak Play Sport. Pics an vid. Gets alot of good reviews. Around my area this time of year the only thing to fish is the bay an its slow in winter. So mostly all my activitys have been shore fishing an hiking, camera will serve me better at this time  :smt001
