Hey NCKA!

I'm going to go to Carmel and see what the fishing is like off Monastery Beach.  I should be down there around 5am or so.  Looking to hit the water once the light breaks the sky, but with my luck it will be an hour after that due to coming from San Jose.

I may be bringing out an FNG, my brother Jon.  He will be coming back from Vegas so...  we shall see.  I asked a few, but they all flaked out.  May be going out solo, but welcome the company.

  Have a great weekend NCKA'rs

Bear, welcome to the site my brother :) I'm sorry that I will not be able to go fishing this weekend; if I was able to, I would be happy to join you. However, I hope that we'll get an opportunity to do so.

In regards to Monestary, how safe is it to launch out there? I haven't launched out there yet, one main reason is that this beach is very dangerous. My main concern is safety, and that is what makes me cautious about launching there.

I hope that you have company that weekend and wish you Korda success :)

I ve been out there twice.  with the cove there it was always a calm launch and beach.   brought up bigger fish than what I ve caught at MBK... except for that ling I caught that won the tourney last year... oh yeah!

Only down side is, it may be a bit chilly (65) and there might be some afternoon winds... perfect reason why i like to get out there so early

Looks like everyone is busy.  I am just going to hit Stevens Creek Reservoir Saturday instead.  Save money and gas for the following weekend.  MBK Tourney baby!  It will be my Girlfriends first time on the ocean in the kayak.

If you all are out there on the 8th.... then i shall see you there.

Whatup Bear!? Yeah Monastery is usually better than MBK for quality & quantity. But make sure to paddle out of the Pt Lobos reserve before you drop a line. And yeah definitely be safe out there, I think the death toll is at like 19 people in the last few decades at Monastery beach. Good luck!

Monastary is NOT a place for the inexpierienced, well trained yaker! Entry is to the far left side(So)or to the far right(No). It can look easy but you better have your ship.. together!!! Fishing is on the North side unless you want to deal with rangers and fish&game. Be careful if and when you go.The place is DANGEROUS !!!
