:smt011 Hahaha.  Having never launched into surf myself, I wouldn't have done what he did for the video.  I knew (As he probably did also) that that wave was gonna have him for lunch! I know after being part of this community for a few years now, that, unless one is launching onto calm flat waters, the kayak deck should be clear of rods & electronics.  and everything else strapped down and leashed. I did recognise the danger about to happen, as his kayak got between him and the wave.  Also, did notice his PFD floating in the surf by him after his first wipe out.

Whoa....tough lesson.  The second he started fumbling around with the paddle and stalling in the break zone I knew he was get clobbered, did not think it was gonna double up like that though, brutal.

again, what's with having your rod out in a tube when you are launching into surf like that? At least he might have saved the rod if he'd had it stowed along the deck somehow.

that aside, yeah Art said it all. That thing just stands up & looms for a second before it comes down on that guy, Ouch!

I don't think that's the beach in question. The rocks in the background @ 0:17 look different.
If anything, it's a testament to the surfability of those old scramblers...my T13 or T140 would've rolled after that first whomp, but the Scrambler stayed upright.

Classic example why one should take a safety class first. Typical launch in calm old NCKA waters. Watching and counting sets always helps.

dude, my man had no business in that surf.  He got knocked the f' out, trying to act cool, instead of paddling like crazy
