The folding Camillus has been in my possesion for about 30 years and has done a lot of cutting. It's also field dressed deer and pigs, amongst other harvests.
The Kershaw is brand new and has never cut anything. I hope to change that soon, hoping the Camillus doesn't get too jealous.
If you don't know where you're headed, any road could get you there.

Mooch,

I have spent a lot of time in the field.  The one knife that was my go to knife was this ugly bastard.  I bought one in the PX 28 years ago.  Some one stole from me, but it has by far the most useful knife out there.  I could dig with it, chop, cut, strip wire, hammer with it, and yes eat with it (useless for soup though).  It could make short work out of C-Rations, 10-1 cans, and a few swipes on a stone brought it back to a sharp edge.  Knives with sharp points have their plus sides, but it sounds like you need a working knife. A flat wide point has a lot more usefullness IMHO.  In Iraq I kept a SOG multi tool with me, which I found to also be a really good knife.  I had it on my body armor, didn't take up a lot of room and was very useful for a lot of things.  Now I would want to go head to head with a charging grizzly with it, but it was useful.

I own the ubiquitous Victorinox Mountaineer, some Rapala and Kershaw fillet knives, a couple of DR "Great Whites" and some Victorinox cheapies that are perfect for filleting CA sized rockies. But my favorites are the #1 Bird and Trout, and ShortCut from Gene Ingram. I've also got a full on custom from him coming in June. The wait was only two years:

Were I heading to AK, I'd think about a Gerber brush thinner:
