First Album was Billy Idol Rebel Yell.

In jr high my stepbrother introduced me to a little known band called Metallica and I devoured it through high school and college mixing in Dre and Snoop. I went to high school when all the girls were into Led Zep or grunge so they all dressed like dudes, wearing jeans, flannel shirts and doc martins (why couldn't Britney Spears come around when I was in high school, she changed the way teen girls dressed)

Now- ipod has over 23K songs, but I have been listening to classic rock more. I am getting back into Beastie Boys. We listen to reggae at the house and I love incubus.

I have never liked U2, I find them highly overrated as well as Springsteen. For some reason they just don't do it for me.

The first I can remember was Marvin Gaye-Let's Get It On
followed by Jefferson Starship-Red Octopus.
Later I bought a record player/cassette/radio combo and started borrowing my friends albums and recording them on cassette.
I listen to everything but country.
I caught a musical on TV called Passing Strange. Loved the tunes.
Here's an example from that musical. It's what I have been starting my day with.
Just click on it sit back and listen.

In Elementary school I was all about Kiss.

But when a friend's older sister turned me on to Jimi Hendrix, that's all she wrote.

I listened to all the Woodstock era guys, Zeppelin, The Who, Stones, Pink Floyd, Ten Years After, Jethro Tull ...

I loved any guitar driven blues with a heavy playlist of Stevie Ray Vaughan, Buddy Guy, Albert King, Frank Marino & Mahogany Rush, Mountain, Savoy Brown, Allman Brothers ...

Mornings and a mellow mood tend to find me more into the Alternative country, Bluegrass types with a lot of Jerry Garcia, Cracker, Grateful Dead, Leo Kottke ...

Now I have everything I own ripped to my PC, with somewhere over 100,000 songs, so I listen to pretty much everything under the sun.

But I always find my way back to Jimi Hendrix.

I think the first album I owned was the Grease Soundtrack. I also remember having a Rick Springfield (Jesse's Girl) 45 and the Chipmunks Christmas record. That was in 1980 when I was only five. The year after that I moved to Baltimore and discovered hip-hop. Back then it was The Fat Boys, Run DMC, Kurtis Blow, and the like. I also started liking the 80's metal bands at that time, as well. Motley Crue, Ratt, Twisted Sister, etc.

Now I still listen to it all. From Slayer to Mariah Carey! But my favorites are still rap artists.

Eminem, Method Man, Xzibit, E-40, Bishop Lamont (if you like rap you gotta check out this cat), and many others.

Being a first generation American on one side and second generation on the other I listened to a lot of spanish music.  No one makes you want to slowly stew over a bottle of some good tequila more than these two.

- Vicente Fernandez
- Cornelio Reyna

From there I started to transition into Chicano music:
- Tierra
- Sapo
- El Chicano

Once I discovered my love for the chicks I moved on to things like
- Diana Ross
- Earth Wind and Fire
- Heavy D
- Keith Sweat
- LL Cool J
- Lisa Lisa
- Ready for the world
- Stevie B

In the Marine Corps I switched to mostly RAP with Tupac being the one I listened to most.  I also still listened to a lot of freestyle at the time.

Nowadays I listen to a lot of modern country and spanish rock.

Alright you guys are making me feel REALLY mature. My first album was The Ventures,Telestar ! WOW there's a flashback. It was all about surf music back then,Beach Boys,Jan&Dean.....Wipeout... i'm still doin' it. :smt005
45's were pretty popular, then came LP's (Long Play) albums.Wow another flashback. Hi Fi,(High Fidelity)  sounds funny now to think of it, but I still have some of the pre-British invasion  stuff and listen to them early on Sunday mornings, unless there are fish to catch. I went through all that 60's-70's-80's-90's-Y2K and came out somewhat sane.Hell I can still remember "THE KING" and the Rolling Stones on the Ed Sullivan Show. How about  Dick Clark and American Bandstand? Hullabaloo? Where the Action Is?
All through school I played the Sax until I graduated and sold that thing and got me a VW Karman Ghia, Man I was cool!  :smt004
Wish I had both of them now! :smt044 Couldn't take a girl out on a Sax :smt008 Thinkin with the wrong head  :smt007
Now I just want to hear some Blues, and good ol' Rock&Roll. last concert was SC bluesfestival and KPIG 107 oink 5 pretty much does it for me now. " Variety is the spice of life, thats what the judge is gonna tell my wife"  Lynyrd Skynyrd,Allman Bros,Dave Mathews,Dave Alvin,Beatles,Dixie Chicks,Keb Mo,BB King,Tom Petty,Taj Mahal,Stevie Ray Vaughn, Buddy Guy, Eric Clapton, and on and on and on I hope........Great thread.....

Thats funny, when I was a kid my dad used to drag us down to TJ to watch Bullfights at the stadium then get smashed in the dives on Revolution St....all to the tune of mariachi, which I hated.

Then chicks entered the equation and all mariachi music made sense to me.....damn women  :smt001

Your ancestors would be very disheartened to know that you're denying your Puerto Rican ball cap and flag hanging from the rear view.....What about Menudo?

Beer and Polka music...does it get any better than that?

Eric, that Texas Tornados clip reminds me of going to the San Jose fair with some of my relatives.  My moms uncle was a hard core Mexicano from New Mexico...he loved him some Tejano and Tex-Mex.

I have a cousin who plays a lot of Tejano music, every once in a while he plays at the hardwork in San Jose.
