i was born in '65, right here in the EastSide (Oakland Highland county hosp.) Yeah, my mom was white and poor, married a Oakland native (who was the first non-white/latino allowed into the HellsAngels) Great combo huh?
How this influenced the radio play.....i do not know, but i do know, a day never went by without hearing music played on the radio.

Who/what did you grow up listening to:

and now that you're oldermature:

my fist album i purchased with MY OWN MONEY was:

then i started hanging around the wrong crowd and started LIVING this!

First 2 albums I bought for myself... "Thriller" & "Synchronicity", must've been 1983 or so.

as far as a lasting impression on me today, I'd have to say the Police win out as they introduced me to this thing called "ska"
....which led me to reggae,
....which led me to the man whose birthday is Saturday, Nesta Robert Marley

Of course there is always AC/DC and the Cult for those days which require a harder edge :smt044

The first album I bought was in 5th or 6th grade and it was Boston. They have a feeling to their music that lifts me up. Triumph, Rush and the groups like them that played positive rock and could mix quality vocals with great music.

I'm a big Beach Boys and Beatles fan myself. Also U2, Springsteen, and the score from Jaws is a pre-fishing staple.

dude?  "copy short cut" is the only way it works(for me)

.....as i was growing up, it was all that 60's love music and the easy 70's
Like Sonny, it was what was playing on the local radio stations at that time.
The Carpenters make me cry now. :smt010

Chicago was happening too! i liked the horns.

i was never into the 70-80's Rock....i was too busy hanging with the wrong crowd, but i did rock to the Beatles and such.

Sean~ ain't it strange how our taste/preference/tolerance changes through the years?  I've gone 180deg. at least five times.

Art~ we had to place the dictaphone/old tape recorder right in front of the speaker to get the best recording.....no RCA jacks back then. :smt012

Ok mostly we just bought 45's not albums when I was growing up,  but when I did by my first album it was "Dick Dale and the Deltones--Surf's Up".  He's still playing to this day, did a gig in Santa Cruz not too long ago.  Today I'm a Blues and Rockabilly fan.

Classic rock is a staple and reminds me of my youth - hence the video soundtracks...

My first albums I bought:  ELO Discovery, Foreigner 4, Air Supply...

45's I bought:  Beatles medley, Loverboy Turn Me Loose, Leo Sayer, Clint Richard, Blondie...

this is bringing on a flashback!   :smt005  Remember the show "Solid Gold"?!!   :smt044

By High School it was all rock - no more of the foof of my youth.

My early days (late 70's) were dominated by Pink Floyd as my mom was busy following them and tripping out...  I'm glad I have fond memories of those days because looking back it could've been a mess.   :smt001
