Hi guys, Monkeyface Kirk here. I have been getting a lot of questions out in the field regarding the status of recreational herring in SF Bay.  Just in case it's useful, the recreational herring fishery will remain open in spite of the commercial closure.  The Fish and Game Commission will not review the recreational herring fishery till 2012.  Just thought a few of you guys might like to know that.  I myself am an avid herring pickler...

Hey and thanks for all the visits to my new blog!  You guys rock!

I totally dig the blog Kirk.
I just checked it yesterday & enjoyed the herring post. I also really liked the SF pier posts with the handmade tackle highlight. Great stuff.

God I love pickled herring, especially with my eggs.

Does your blog give pickling instructions? (and what is the address?)

Are herring running in SF bay now?

Sorry for all the ??s

Yes indeed, pickled herring is great. It's also too bad I only discovered the pickled herring at Sauls deli right before I left.

Luckily, even the most provincial of British supermarkets stocks rollmops.

Kirk; the blog is a great read!

That's great news.  I love herring.  Been looking for info on what net to use and how to cast.  Found this chick in Suasalito giving lessons.
