and this whole time I thought OG was for old guard, I guess I am now officially out of touch and old  :smt003

Funny thing is, I dont feel any different.  Other than aches and pains, and paying more attention to medical ads on TV.  :smt044

and technically wasnt Aerosmith the first to rap with "walk this way?"

Wow.... :smt011

So does that mean you disagree with the thought of OG glorifying something I would hope we don't want to glorify or does it mean that you don't agree that what you guys are doing is trying to create an elitest sub-club within NCKA?

It maybe that I'm all wrong here but a response like "wow" isn't going to convince me of that.

Not that it maters to me much...  But have to Agree with Pacifico and well spoken...

Struck me as ODD, the OG thing, Figured it was labeled to the originators of NCKA and oh-well, if they need that fine,,, whatever, don't really see the need and is a bit of a put-off...

A couple of times already I've heard comments about how things have really changed, they aren't the same anymore with all the new people.  For a while I kind of bought into it, and I do still somewhat agree with it...but sometimes I wonder how much of those changes are because of the new people and how much of them are actually because of things like this.

This is a Great Observation, I really appreciate the enthusiasm of new people to the board, I know I have lost some of that and it's nice to be reminded of what it was like to discover this Great Sport.  Being a Fisherman all my life, I felt very confident, but kayakfishing is such a different animal and felt intimidated to hook up with people at first. Creating a " OG "  " Legend " etc... further puts up that wall for newbies to get involved...

OG's... just don't see the need   :smt011

and please don't put me in that club....

OK I see where you're coming from now, Angel.
I just assumed the new title was bestowed upon members who've been around since the beginning (once again, I spoke before getting all the facts D'OH). Maybe that's not the case though?

Honestly, it really doesn't matter to me, so I'm not sure why I am responding again LOL. I stand by my statement that the old-school crew can call themselves whatever they want, as far as I'm concerned.

But, I do have to say...that after seeing how a secret club-within-a-club created problems for another fishing website, I have to agree that it is potentially a bad idea if it's going to cause rifts among members. The other site didn't do a good job of explaining what the secret club was all about, why it was formed, criteria for inclusion, etc. And that was the main reason why it created problems among the membership IMO. Some people felt left-out. So from that perspective, I see how a secret club could cause issues down the line.

Sorry, Angel, that wasn't directed at you. I just couldn't believe that a little monicker (is that even the right term?) would cause so much commotion.

Just for the record, as far as I know, nobody asked have OG put by our names...and it seems like most of us didn't even notice it was there until it was pointed out to us.

I feel I need to chime in here.
When I first saw Dilbeck's 'Position:OG' post I literally had no clue what it was all about. I thought it was sometning like the Lingzilla or Halibut position that's why I posed the question "What's the criteria???". I was guessing it was something like "X" amount of posts or first "X" amount of people to join NCKA, maybe based on AOTY points, I didn't know. It was a simple unassuming question; so I thought.
I feel bad how it has kind of gotten out of hand. I feel REALLY bad that some individuals are being singled out for basically just breathing.
The tone of some of the posts that I deserve to have a "ranking" over some others has just got to stop. I don't feel that way and I never will.
I certainly did not post the question because I felt I deserved something. How can I when I don't even know what it is?
I am glad to see that people actually like my posts though. :smt003

My original post on this question was at 12:02AM.
I received a very flattering email after 2:00AM from a member and below is most of my response:

I really had no idea there was an OG forum or anything like that.
I have been fairly inactive because of my shoulder. I found out right before the Cedros trip I am going to need another surgery. It has to wait until January tho. I got past the point of kidding myself that I can do the things I used to do w/o any consequences. That's the reason I am up right now. It is hurting like hell so I am icing it so I can go back to sleep. Very frustrating.
It is disheartening that kayakfishing=pain and as a result I lack the desire to participate. As much as it is just about my favorite thing in the world to do the cost of the after effects outweigh the benefit of the pleasure. I will still go out but it is more of an attitude of 'Fuck you shoulder' than an attitude of peace, fun and great exercise and afterwards my shoulder always says 'fuck you back'.
I had surgery in April and should have been fine by now. The Dr. did a subacromial decompression where instead he should have worked on the acromioclavicular (AC) joint where they shave or remove a portion of the end of the clavicle. A case of wrong diagnosis.
What killed me was when the Dr. said, " Gosh, I could have made one more incision a 1/2 inch over and gotten that too while I was in there".
I wish I never heard that. LOL
As for the criteria question; I was only asking out of curiosity. I understand why Bill created that part. I have been hearing a lot of talk from some "OG's" who expressed an interest in such a thing but I already thought it existed. I call it a telephone.. A lot of the reasoning is of course 'paying your dues' but from what I gather from most it is it's just a lot easier to fish with someone who you don't have to babysit and who isn't going to do anything to screw things up.

So that's it in a nutshell people. Now go out and fish! I'm gonna go ice my shoulder.

Well said Tote! I just picked up a Hobie myself to try and spread the joint pain around a little. Those rotator cuffs hurt like hell after paddling all day long for a couple days back to back. Thanks for sharing your POV and I hope your surgery goes well. jim

Just my 2 cents....

Regarding the OG thing, I don't agree with it. But I could care less if it exists or not. OG or not.....NO BIG EFING DEAL. My main concern about NCKA is keeping the vibe as welcoming as possible (none of this localism crap  :smt011 If you want your spot to be a secret spot = DON'T EFFING POST about it) If you feel that YOUR spot was put in the public spotlight by someone else, send that person a PM but please remember the bottom line here : you can't control who goes where unless it's truly YOUR PRIVATE PROPERTY.

Some here like rocking the boat to get others to respond and most of the time, it get's ugly. Bottom line, take that crap somewhere else. if you want to argue for the sake of arguing, take it to the PM world and spare the rest of us PLEASE. If you don't agree with what someone else is saying, it's fine to dissagree but be a mature adult about it. NCKA is getting bigger than ever and if we can keep it clean and fun LIKE IT WAS BEFORE, then it's a win-win situation for EVERYONE.

I also see "clicks" within NCKA  (people who get personal invites via PM's to fish a certain spot) and there's nothing wrong with that. Please don't take it personally if you don't get THAT invite.

I apologize for venting out....I'm just frustrated about some of the BS going on here :smt011

PEACE,
Mooch

Let's make an effort to BITCH less, fish more and keep the good vibe flowing

Joel -

I agree 100%. Like Woody Allen said... "I would never want to be a member of a club who would have me as a member." The only real kayak fishing "OG" are Eskimos (AKA, Alaska Natives). Everyone else are just wanabees. Make your own kayak out of seal skins and hunt polar bears with home made spears on the polar ice pack and you got my respect. AOTY? sorry, just doesn't compare.  :smt005 If I did join a not-so-secret club within NCKA here are some I WOULD consider  :smt005 ...

1. The "Jai Boi Cherry Poppin Club" - every fish is a celebration regardless of size!!!!!!  :smt006
2. The "Fishmaster Fish, Dive and Fry Club" - it's all about the shore lunch.
3. The "Abking Family Fishing and You Tube Club" - if it is not on video, it didn't happen.
4. The "Fishunter Underwater Photography Club" - catch, pic and release.

Here is my schedule... Friday pour plastic scampis. Saturday catch rockfish with scampis with my friends. Sunday cook rockfish for my family. Let's get NCKA back to fishing and stop the complaining, member bashing, politics, police/warden bashing and other negative rhetoric which are dragging this blog in the wrong direction, IMO.
