Still can't stand that incessant, all sounds the same, window rattling THUMP THUMPA THUMP,misogynist, bitches n ho's,gang bangin',cop killin, put a cap in yo' ass crap.
That's like saying all country is about a guy who lost his dog and his girl, rides a tractor, and the incessant sound of violins, mouth harps, and booze jugs drive one crazy. In any genre of music there's tons of variety.

Music execs keep cramming this gangsta thug "music" or bubble gum Britany Spears/Miley Cyrus/ Jonas Queers down our throats for the last 10 years and then complain because no one is buying CD's anymore.

They blame file sharing, P2P, Itunes... when it is just crap "music" poor poduct and business model.  Most of those OG "old gangstas" won't live long enough to hate their kid's music. I say good riddance. I hate gangsta rap so much I wouldn't even rip it off a P2P for free. Music execs are just using the boyz from the hood to make a buck, and will drop them like a hot potato when the next "punk" music comes along. You need to see what that "music" is doing to the kids. They know every word, and idolize these scumbags/thieves/drug dealers/rapists/murders.  The little wanna-be's are getting killed imitating the OG.

Thank God Garth Brooks is coming back to bring sanity to the music world!

check out REAL music----- Robert Plant and Allison Krauss,  CD title "Raising Sand" not a bad track on it!

This is the fifth CD I've bought THIS CENTURY, the others were PCD, Soundtrack to O' Brother, Where art 'thou (great movie), Steely Dan, and No Doubt.

If you can't get laid playing this, there isn't a porkchop biggest enough to attract a woman THAT horny. Frank was a MUSICAL GOD. Throw Bono in, and it is like an aphrodisiac. Can't say that about any rapper music. This song is 40+ years old ( I think my youngest brother was conceived to it) and 40 years from now, most rap music won't even be a memory unless it is a bad memory (ICE, ICE, BABY).

Not exactly where I saw this thread going, but hey, it's all good. :smt003

What's the criteria???

Yeah, don't know, but I definitely thought you'd be there. :dontknow:

Not a NB, not a OG, why not create another dividing exclusionary label to best describe the middleground? Just joking Tote.

Don't bust his balls, direct all criticism my way.  And I definitely wasn't trying to create another label in which to divide people.

Most of those OG "old gangstas"

I always thought OG meant Original Gangsta.  Less derogatory than "Old".

I was not busting his balls. I was joking around about creating a third label for people who are not NB's and who were not chosen to be called OG's.

I've always taken the time to click on a member's handle and see when they joined NCKA. That.....along with how long someone has been fishing, how long someone's been kayakfishing, and the good fortune of being along on some good NCKA hookups and watching firsthand as certain members were absolutely killing it OTW.....determines my respect for each individual.

It does take more thought than simply slapping a label on a chosen few and excluding others. jim

P.S. Maybe a lot of thought and careful consideration went into "OG". I don't know as there was no annoucement or explanation. I do respect all those guys, OG's, plus Tote and a whole bunch of other guys who are more experienced than me and not total ***ks about it.

Isn't it though in general terms with some slight variations????  :smt003

Yeah, like most genres, there are some outstanding pieces and then there are the middle-of-the-road,clone songs/versions to capitalize on the trends...

Sorry I wasn't around to respond earlier, just got back from Reno.  Unfortunately for me I spent more time unstacking chips than I wanted.

Let me clear something up...my post was meant to be a remark towards the "OG" and really had nothing to do with the music.  I apologize for the post being vague, I didn't mean to throw your minds into that tailspin.

The comparison of Eazy-E to Sinatra was meant as humor/sarcasm but I guess that gets lost on some unless it's accompanied by a silly picture.   :smt003

As for "respect" and how we apparently assign a level of it to an individual...it's a bit odd that anyone would use a recreational sport as inputs into it.  I do admire others kayaking skill and I also admire their fishing prowess, but neither of those two things come into play when I think about how much or how little I respect anyone.  Could it be that you're confusing respect and admiration?

Now onto the "OG" thing.  OG to me refers to being an "Elder" and that in turn usually means "Leadership"...

Looking through the list of OG's, it looks like there were some who were definitely absent from the list and some who were mysteriously included and probably should not have been...so there goes the "Elder" thing.

As far as leadership I think we can all come to a conclusion on that.  So as far as the meaning of OG it's pretty much invalid.

Aside from all of that how can you glorify the term "OG" in this way, even if only jokingly, and then still watch the news and feel what I would think we all do towards any kind of gang life?

Even if for some odd reason you aren't opposed to gang life, do you really think you embody the traits of an "OG"?

How about this for a scenario...a phone call from some fishing committee to Bill..

Fishing Committee: "Hey Bill, we need some help to collect some data do you think maybe some of your guys would be interested?"
Bill: "I'm sure they would be, let me reach out to my OG's and I'll get back to you to set something up".

A couple of times already I've heard comments about how things have really changed, they aren't the same anymore with all the new people.  For a while I kind of bought into it, and I do still somewhat agree with it...but sometimes I wonder how much of those changes are because of the new people and how much of them are actually because of things like this.

I guess if you absolutely need some kind of merit badge could you at least name the group something that brings just a little less shame to yourselves and to the people you will inadvertently be representing?

One positive thing is that now that Art has been given some street cred hopefully the thieves will stop stealing his boat gas.   :smt003

For those who who's mind easily go into that tailspin, if you need some help understanding just let me know and I'll try to get Tookie, a real OG, to create a picture book..http://www.tookie.com/abtook.html

I just assumed the new title, OG, was reserved for those who've been members since the beginning. And it's probably tongue-in-cheek because that term has been thrown around jokingly. I guess the other term that has been used a lot recently is legend. But I'm not sure if that title would be any better than OG. Either way, they're the ones who have been around through thick and thin, so they deserve the right to be called whatever they want.
Oh, and I agree that IceT was the OOG. He lost significant cred by taking a part on Law&Order, but his character does a great job of keepin it real! I love that show.

Sin Coast, based on some of your previous post I would have expected a bit more from you than that.

It's true that some of them have been around for quite some time...but I don't know about deserving to be called whatever they want.  Sometimes even true OG's (Elders/Leaders) take a step in the wrong direction and somebody, regardless of their rank, needs to call them on it.

So many people here worry about public perception...what would be your perception be of a group of mostly middle aged (probably middle class) white men floating around in plastic boats claiming to be OG members of an Elitest sub-club of NCKA?  I know what mine would be.

i do not mind anyone being called OG, or whatever they are called.

I personally never worry about whatever title is next to my handle.  i'm sure many of those who are currently labeled as "OG" don't either - they don't need some title on a website to know how much they have contributed to the site/kayak fishing/etc.

but i do understand where angel is coming from here.  the OG designation was not applied the way i thought it was, so there are some potential snubs out there. like a very simple example:

nothing against juan (mako1) but tote registered before he did, has made many more posts, many helpful ones, and did win BAM IV.  So to say that juan deserves OG designation but Tote does not shows that the criteria are dubious at least. obviously that's just one cherry picked example, but some more defined criteria would prevent others from seeing it as a "good ole boy" type name.
