I'm sure this question has come up before.  I'd pay because I get therapy from this site.

PS:  Damn!  I can't "modify" the typo in my poll!!  Therapy sucked today...   :smt012   :smt002

I voted no, because I don't like the idea of requiring it.  But I'm all for volunteer contributions ... and I'd gladly kick one down.

I don't mind paying for membership providing the fund is used toward good causes.

I've always thought that we (NCKA ) as a group, could accomplish great things...

I agree with Polepole on not making it mandatory, but would like to put funds towards
an ncka clubhouse of sorts...

I voted for the last option because "none of the above" wasn't available.
The way I see it, I pay the entrance fee for AOTY each year with the expectation that some of the money goes towards site maintenance or a slush-fund etc.
Maybe I'm wrong though? And if I am wrong, I wouldn't mind paying an additional 5 or 10 bucks for AOTY if that money is used for such purposes. That way, it isn't a mandatory membership fee...it's more like a volunteer contribution.
So I guess my answer is Yes--I would pay 10 or 20. But it should not be mandatory.

I think it would detour some lurkers...I wouldn't have payed.

After being with the NCKA for the past year or so I would defiantly pay. I just get so much out of it.

I'd like to know what ideas people have to spend the $$$$$ on?

Very good question Abking.

I voted for the $20 option, but as I thought about it more I should have selected "other."

I was trying to thing of a way that there would be a "Gold Level" membership. In other words, the site is free to anybody, but there could be a "gold member" part of the site that only paid members can access. What goes into this section, I have no idea, but it's a thought.

I haven't voted yet but I don't like how the No Vote is worded.  I'd rather have it say "No cause there are other sites that are free".  I'm a member of several forums, Kayak Angler, Kayak Fishing Stuff, Fish Sniffer and lately this one.  Most of what's posted is on the coast, being from Reno NV, I enjoy reading the fishing reports but because of logistics I'm not going to be out at those spots the next day. Conversely, I do fish Pyramid Lake and some of the Eastern Sierra Lakes, Tahoe, Stampede, Prosser and have no problems with posting reports and having people show up because of them.  This is the internet and for the most part forums are free.  If you do start charging expect people to leave and I'll be one.  The internet is a big place you can always find something similar out there.

AOTY funds as well as ad revenue all support the running of this site. I voted no cause I am not a fan of pay for play sites.

If I can make it easy to admin I might consider an AOTY participants only section but right now I have enough trouble keeping up with AOTY payments and stickers.  :smt003

This gets to the heart of it for me. Is NCKA an informational site, or is it a fishing club? I've always thought of it as a club, which is why I'm willing to pay dues. But, I do understand that there are folks that see this site as nothing more than a source of information and a place to BS with other kayakers. Those are the folks we would lose if NCKA charged dues.

I didn't Vote but my answer is No but not because I don't think it is worth it I would gladly pay whatever it took. When I joined the site it was free if I hadn't looked at it I probably wouldn't have bought a kayak and made so many new and good friends, I would hate to deprive anyone of the same chances I had. I think this site redirects lives for the better and I have learned a ton and not just about fishing and Kayaking if the whole world was on this site it would definatly be a better world.

That said I would like to see a private section for only those who sign up for AOTY can exchange reports and hook-ups without worrying about what they post.

I agree with both. With other clubs you can view only a limited number of posts before you must become a member. I like the donation thing, but lots of people will say they will donate but won't. This is a very tough qustion with no right answers. I would definately pay though!!!!
