I tried to back off, and it did last.  For 30 minutes.  Wish I had more time and money but I'll see some of you peeps again.  Much love and as long as possoble I will be semi -lurking.  Great sight and great people.  Thank you Jim.

Jim, lots of people are in your boat, so to speak. No one here has any problem with people who can't get on the water much. Reading the posts to fulfill one's kayak-fishing "needs" is understandable - not the kind of "lurking" anyone has an issue with. And you have more than 10 posts so you can read the fishing reports, too. Now, when you have a chance, let's get that kayak out of the weeds.  :smt004

I think 10 posts is a bit low, but that's just me. It's still WAY better than before.
Padding goes something like this... 200 days until.....whatever event.
Followed by the next days post....199 days until....same event .And so on and so on.
I love the idea of cleaning house every now and then. It helps get down to the true numbers. The only down side is I can't copy and paste reports to my friends afar. Now they will just have to take my word for it. Boy am I gonna have some fun now.  :smt044

My wife, who is far smarter than I am, suggested that TR's be made available to the general internet surfing public 2 weeks after posting here, thereby solving everyone's problems.

I knew I married her for a reason.

Just wanted to thanks all the OG's that were always logged on when I first joined.  Miss you all if you haven't posted in a while....a looong while.  Going out to the blue is no small matter, so being encouraged by vets made it so much easy.  Keep posting everyone and everything will be OK :smt003

Crash you fit in just fine. And I love your wife's idea. I am not sure if it is an admin nightmare. But you (well Bill) could have a 'members' Fishing Report that is real time. Then a Casual Reader (lurker or as I phrased it a few posts ago 'weirdo') section that has the reports two weeks later. I think that is a great idea.

HOW ABOUT GETTING RID OF THE (GUEST ACCESS)
MEMBERS WILL BE MORE INCLINED TO POST IF THE ONLY OPTION IS TO LOG IN BEFORE THEY CAN ACCESS THE SITE.

Crash that is a good idea (the 2 week lag) I will see if I can find some way to make it automatic and that might be an option.

We went down the path of mis-information of spots but really that is far more clickish and dividing than just having a mandate to participate in the group. Mis-information is great in poker, not so great when you are dealing floating on the ocean in a little piece of plastic.  :smt002

Wow...I misread everything.

Thought the new rule would be that without having posted 10-reports TO FISHING REPORTS you would have no access to fishing reports.

I thought that   p e o p l e   l i k e   m e   were being targeted:  People seemingly who have everything to say about everything, but who do not contribute to the fundamentally most interesting function of NorCal Kayak Anglers...that very thing:  reports & pictures.

Now that I've tumbled to the fact that your gunna allow ME....with my paucity of good contributions....to have Fishing Report Access....     My true internal reaction is quite confused.   My first question is:  Why on Earth..??..!!..??    My second reaction...is gratitude, I guess.   My third reaction is...well, I really must bring my camera along and DO some quality fish pictures.

In the meantime...you've seen this before but I'll post it again:

Great insight crash. Thanks for that.

Oh, and I finally found a drawback to this change: I can't log into my acct w/my phone, so no more reports on the road. But that's something I can deal with.

I like the idea,

Newbies should not feel putout or being seen as " Outsiders.... "

That has, and never will be, the mission of NCKA,  anyone who peruses this site knows what we are,

Open, and Welcoming to all, Free-Flowing with info,

This site is huge with plenty of subjects,  should be able to find something to talk about.....

I can understand how someone new to the site could become

" Turned-off " by not being able to view the catch of the day, and that will be a tough " sell " as I daily tell people about this site...

But, I also hate the thought of someone who makes a routine of " Taking..."

I can also see how someone new would want to contribute with a report...

no problem,  just post it up in General or something like that...

Some good points on this on both sides...  But, I don't think anyone who is truly interested in this site or this sport needs to feel like a " Outsider..."

That word does not exists here.....

I'm sure (well, I am guessing) that raising capital ($) isn't the driving issue. But let's assume some revenue flow in NCKA would be put to good use. I also like the annual 'dues' for a yearly T-shirt. I got my first one at GSIII and I cherish it (thanks FM1). I am so looking fwd to the getting the Albion shirt and hoodie. It really is a cool idea. I know we have AOTY but for some AOTY may not be an option and the T may be a way to support the cause at a 'lower' level.

This site has never been about $, I make enough to cover cost and make a small profit (enough to keep the IRS off my back) at this point I am still in the hole a decent chunk of change but I don't care. The last thing I want to do to take money from people that they should be putting towards more important stuff than paying for server bills.
