Interest in a surf/rescue/rigging for yakfishing at MBK
« on: June 04, 2009, 08:39:04 pm »
A few NCKA members have suggested that we hold an all day rescue, surf zone, and saltwater rigging/safety class at MBK.Myself and Holokai, MBK resident surf kayak guru and instructor teacher, would co-teach the class. Kayaks, paddles, helmets, wetsuits, paddle jackets and PFD would be provided if you don't already have your own.We would cover and practice self-recovery,launching and landing in the surf, and rigging a fishing kayak for saltwater fishing.

MBK is a great area to demo boats and test your skills in the surf. The surf pretty much gets incrementally larger as you paddle north toward the hotel. This would be a great intro for beginners and a season primer for vets with tips on launching and landing at Big Sur and other technically challenging surf launches. If we offered this for around $60 with group discount possibilities how many would be interested in this class? When would be a good date for this?

If it's on a weekend, I'm in! I could use some help after my crash landing at Capitola(!) in front of an audience of beachgoers...

Don't feel embarassed, AlgieSwift, I did the same thing on my first visit to Crapitola!  :smt003

I'd be up for a class like this...I need all the help I can get when it comes to handling my tank...er, Outback, in the surf.  Weekends would be best for me; any Sunday, or Saturdays anytime after the end of this month when the quarter ends at De Anza and I'm FREE for summer.

This would be a really cool thing to do for NCKA. Thanks for floating this idea out there Aaron. I'm down for Sat or Sundays.
