Sounds like a fun gig.  I know from putting on quite a few years of events that it's a lot of work, so good on you for getting this going.

Will there be t-shirts for the participants?  If not, where does the entry money go?

Do you have a maximum number of participants that you'll allow?

Just a piece of advice:  if you get, say, 100 entries, I think folks will be pleased to know up front where the $6000 goes, other than food and drinks.

Best of luck, and I will be looking at my calendar to see if I can make it down for your tournament.

Interesting question. I wonder what permit fees and insurance run for such an event these days?

Looking at entry fees for some of last year's tourney's $60 does seem high!

Albion Open- $45
MBK Derby- $40
Alameda Rock Wall- $35

Really interested if the $60 includes anything. Shirt, raffle tickets, etc

Also, the launch at OP is extremely small, 1 or 2 yaks at a time so the launch is going to be crazy!

At least those 3 tournaments the proceeds go back to an non profit organization. Nothing mentioned for this tournament.

Nothing like a little profit though…capitalism has its place but the tournament pattern does lean philanthropic…pay to play … :smt006

I just assumed it's a profit driven event. People who put in their time to organized events and get people out should be rewarded for their time - Nothing wrong with that. As an event organizer myself i know how much work goes into putting these events together. I choose to donate my proceeds to a non-profit, but it's my choice. As i recall, a lot of the Bass tournaments are profit driven as well - It's ok.

If you want to go and pay $60 then go, if not then don't.

I would say a good medium is $45 for a tournament and what market rate is for a quality event. The prizes should definitely be really good if it's a profit driven event.  Anyways it's good to see other kayak tournaments coming on the scene. I didn't want to be the last one holding the dead cat if kayak tournaments are declining. haha  :smt005 :smt005

Let's see here.  NickFish and his homies showed up here as noobs and probably benefited quite a bit from asking questions and looking through posts on here.  Yet have they contributed anything to NCKA?  Between burning people's spots and violating F&G regs like class acts, they've done more damage than good.  And now he wants to run a tourney for profit and decides to advertise here?  Not likely to get a huge following here considering that most don't even like them dudes...minus the few knob gobblers on here praising him.

Personally, I don't find anything wrong with running a tourney for profit, everyone has a gig to make ends meet and nothing wrong with that.  But if you haven't given anything to the community and only pop in when it benefits your pockets, then you don't belong here or any community for that matter...you're just a leech at this point.

Yet another reason why people don't post on here anymore...all you super serious panties in a bunch people handing out warnings on here.  It basically caused the OP to apologize over nothing.

I'm not handing out any warnings, just saying whats on my mind.  Second, I'm not trying to make OP apologize for anything.  You really think thats why he hasn't posted here in all this time?  Thanks for chiming in with that though.

I’m curious how they expect, say 50 kayakers, to launch at the side kayak launch ramp.  It’s tiny.  Smaller than a 2-car driveway width.   And with the limited parking at Oyster point, I’m guessing he doesn’t expect more than 15-20 people to attend this event.

I see about 1/2 the guys drop it in at the boat dock and there's parking on that side too.
