hi gang,

I need a garage spring replaced.  Any handyman referrals out there that will service Willow Glen/South Bay?

And before you respond with "why don't you just do it yourself, its ez" - No!!!   :smt044

TIA!!

I tried replacing a spring myself. Watched a bunch of yt videos and felt confident I could do it myself. Turned out there are dozens of different sizes. I thought I got the same one as what I had. I was wrong. After replacing one spring, I had to unlock the door to test the spring. The door shot up like a rocket and damaged the entire door and frame and the garage roof. Ended up a much more expensive job than I had anticipated. It is smart that you had decided to let a professional handle it.

Its been a few years when I had similar work done.  I suggest getting quotes from a professional garage door company.  It took 2 of their guys with very specialized tools to get the job done.

Those springs are under crazy tension!  I would also go with a garage door specialist.  Sorry, I don't ahve a handyman in that area though.

Not sure if they service the area, but I've used these guys before with good success.

What about Precision Garage Door Co? They’re in your area and seem to have a good rep.

I’ve installed both wood and metal garage doors - sectionals and single panels. Like others have said, they are under serious tension to counter the weight of the door.

Jarvis Garage Door Service in Fremont installed and service my garage door.  Maybe call to see if they will help you. Service area is local but  they have gone out of area at times. Can't hurt to ask.  (510) 791-5094

A little PSA since I happen to be here reading. Lat year our garage door stopped opening. There's an 8 ft threaded screw rod and when it turns it pulls the door open or closed.  Called a garage door company who did a site visit - "Absolutely cannot be fixed. New opener at $1,800 but we recommend the upgrade at $2,200." Yeah, unless you check Amazon and see you can get the replacement part for under 20 bucks and under 10-20 minutes to install. (10 mins for a normal folk - 20 for me). + about $80 for the wasted service call. Maybe this will help someone one day....

Jarvis estimated $110 for visit and maybe $200 in parts, to start.  Seemed reasonable
