That would be fun!  Seems like dates are all mid week, might make it hard to plan but will see what I can work out.  DFG has a list of dates and spots as well.

Sounds like fun. Thanks for the info  Alex.  Maybe I will give it a try this year.

Anyone ever get on a grunion run up here?  I've seen a bunch during my college days in socal, but I've only witnessed a grunion run once up here.  It was back in 2001 or 2002 along SMC late at night.  Very cool to watch.

I tried once in Monterey. I only saw a few and only caught one, but it would be cool to see a massive run…
Are you pondering what I’m pondering?

Its pretty awesome to see a full stretch of beach with millions of grunion washing up to shore and doing their thing.  I didn't bother catching any back then but now is a different story lol.

I haven't been to one of his grunion hookups but I've heard its mostly bunch of dudes getting drunk all night and lots of touching.   :smt044 :smt044

I think the runs are better the farther south you are, so you want to plan to make a road trip for it.  In Monterey all you see are A-Hulls  :smt044

I had some of FM1's battered grunion deep fried in a disc.  It was pretty damn good.
I'd love to run on some grunion sometime

Redondo Beach in SoCal in the 70's shortly after leaving the Army, my brother moved from Long Beach so that I could attend El Camino College for free. We were in an apartment, long since converted to condos, overlooking the beach. I was walking along the beachunder a full moon one night and walked the jetty. I met a stewardess who was watching a friend who was in the water waiting for the school of grunion just outside the waves to come in. I told her friend to leave the water and wait several minutes. Sure enough, 10 minutes later, the school comes ashore.

You can only catch them by hand. Back then, there was no limit and people were catching and filling garbage cans. I think today, there is a limit of how many pounds you can catch/keep in any outing. I caught approx 300. Tasty.

Nah! I was nowhere that lucky...and being a newbie to grunion hunting, I spent hours cleaning all the grunion. :) :(
