Congratulations to Corey for winning this years AOTY with a top score of 1704.5 pts!  He was also the winner in 2021, earning himself a rare streak in winning back to back years making Angler Of The Year history!

Of course congratulations to all the people that joined and played this past year, it was a fun competition with some very very nice catches to brag about.  It makes for an interesting year of fishing and I enjoyed watching everyone's journey through their catches and reports!  You could certainly tell the top players were on each others heels trying to gain levels this year! :smt044

Anglers, chime in on what your favorite part of 2022 AOTY was, share the stoke for kayak fishing!  Remember everyone it's free this year as well, so no reason not got sign up and give it a try!  You wont find a better way to motivate yourself to seek out new challenges and upgrades of your personal bests.

For myself, it was really good year that I got to test out some new fishing techniques and learn a few new ways to catch some delicious points.  I scored my PB kokanee, my first ever brown trout, my first salmon in 10 years, and my PB lingcod!

Yeah Corey!! Congrats!!!

My favorite part about AOTY is the friends you make along the way, the incentive to go chase new species and PBs, and the healthy shit talking. I'd encourage anyone who's on the water regularly to enter and participate this year. One of those things where you get out of it what you put into it. And it's fun to track your fish and use AOTY as a personal archive. Those are my initial thoughts, but I can say after finishing my second AOTY year, it has most definitely made me a better fisherman.

Let's boot Corey off that podium this year!!  :smt003

Oh BURN!!

But yeah I saw that too. Al could have pressed a tail or something to make up that difference.

I personally got 2 PB halibuts and a PB ling and PB cab in 2022, so other than salmon, bass and panfish, it was a great year for me.

Super fun year for me! The cove provided my only salmon of the year, and that monster cab to start off the competition.

I felt obligated to take it seriously after having such an amazing catch lol, went on to score a surprise hatchery steelhead and the 38" ling. All 3 PB for me on my kayak, I think I have landed a larger ling on the boat but the cool thing about AOTY is we get to document the catches properly and know for certain how long they were instead of telling someone "it was about this big! it was huge!" (hands going further and further apart)

My goal is to represent Humboldt's fishery in this Norcal competition but I plan to make some freshwater trips and expand my species list to kokes and different types of bass.

Watch out for next year Corey, and better luck 3$!!!!(thank god for my buzzer beater perch lol)

Thank you, everybody! It was a super fun year - full of very good times with very good friends and a few nice fish along the way.

I’m looking forward to ‘23! I’m certain I’ll be unable to defend the title, as I have a boat on order.  None-the-less, I’ll be out plenty in the kayak and hope to fish with even more of the participants this year.
