I want to try a BAITSHARK KEY WEST LOW DRAG LIVE WELL (5.5QT), but for $44+$22 shipping ($60 total with 15% off), I am not sure it is really worth it.  I am thinking about making my own by adding Frabill Flow Troll Bait Container(6QT) to a Swimming Kickboard.  Do you think it will work?

I thought about switching but the baitshark method seems to only keep about half dozen bait lively. With the large frabill I can normally keep a little more small to 7" bait bc it sits deeper in the water. Of course the drawback is the amt of drag on the frabill it creates.

I dont think the frabill on the board will do any better either given the shape, size, and the way it's designed. I dont have any experiences with the long DIY long tube method and curious how they do vs the frabill.

Yeah, I had the bait shark ready to buy until I saw the $22 shipping/handling fee.   That made me cancel it immediately.  I’m also looking for an alternative.

I’m trying to decide if I’d rather just make a live well with a bucket at the rechargeable aerator that I already have.

Are you pondering what I’m pondering?

I have been using a foldable bait bucket with an aerator, and it works fine.

I think Baitshark has less drag and is easier to use.

Sorry I dont mean putting the DIY tube on the float board but just the tube in the water itself.

I met a guy a fellow kayaker otw a few weeks ago in SC and seems to rave about it and I was just curious how they fare livewellwise.

I like the frabill for two other reasons. One it's kinda like a bucket I can use to rinse my kayak down of sand and fish blood. Secondly I'll throw my pliers and other small things I need to rinse off the salt end of the day.

I use the frabil and keep it in the water while I'm drifting or moving slow (TONS of drag). If I'm in transport and need to make tracks I pick it up and store it aft. I've rigged a long air hose taped to it's rope with an air stone inside, and an air bubbler clipped onto the back of my seat. Keeps the bait frisky when I'm moving. Used that system all last year's works great.  I'd take a picture, but it's dumping outside!

I’m also using a foldable bucket. No aerator. Put it in front of the mirage drive. Works well for a few smelts. I change the water a few times. I don’t think it would work for keeping lots of bait alive for many hours though..

A good live well is worth it. I got tired of always dragging my frabrill around

I currently use the big Frabil Flow Troll and really like it for small amounts of bait.  Just like others mentioned it is a ton of drag, have to pull it out of the water when transitioning spots.  I'm betting you can do better and cheaper DIY if it's worth your time.  Been lots of posts over the years on bait tube designs, I had one but the pics are all missing from the post now.  It was made out of a map tube from tap plastics https://www.tapplastics.com/product/plastics/plastic_rods_tubes_shapes/tube_pak/274

I’ve used the frabill style bait tanks.
I’ve built 2 different bait tanks.
I’ve bought 2 different bait tanks.

If you are really trying to keep baits alive a dedicated livewell that circulates water from the outside (ocean/lake) into the container and then drains out is the way to go.

This is the best bait tank for me. Tried the Frabill and Baitshark live well. Very little drag compared to the others and very easy to transport after a fishing trip. Its kept all my bait lively.
