O'neill forebay (video)

This report is late but it was a late October trip to the forebay. Normally the fishing during October is amazing but I had a tough time. The fish were really scattered and very picky. They stuck to live shiners mostly but I got a few decent fish during the day. Here's a video of the trip.

Nice. San luis reservoir, love it. You never know what size striper you gonna get. Some beasts in there.

I was up the street a few weeks ago and ran into a camper who said the Basalt was closed to camping. Said they were doing work to the dam so that it would hold more water.

Nice job hooking that one with the bucktail.

Yup, they are supposed to have that side closed down for quite some time for the add on they are doing. I liked launching the yak on that side too since it was close to some good areas.

I was out there fly fishing early AM on 10/9/22, fish busting all over the surface for the first hour of sunlight. It was insane but could not get a bite for the life of me. I was using a fly that looked like a small baitfish and was going after Stripers. I think another person mentioned it may have been Carp, maybe thats why...

Likely carp, seen a lot there rolling in the shallows.  But in the past, Oct/Nov was one of the best times I've had throwing top water lures for stripers there.
