Not really a good time because it's late and dark during the low.

Less Crowds to contend with.  Winter Clamming in WA was killer for this reason.

Here it's not legal to clam after sunset. Winter is enough to draw less crowds 

I guess you have an maybe hour half today is best?
 I normally paddle out to Lawson from Nick's cove and it's no fun coming back in the dark.

what about the flats right behind Cove Campground in Doran?

Guess that's available there but Lawson has bigger ones I'm after 

It's two different experiences between the two spots.
