I have some pretty serious rust holes on my pick-up roof mostly near the gutters and on my lumber rack from saltwater. I don't rinse the truck after saltwater trips and it shows. Fortunately it has over 200,000 on it and still runs. unfortunately I think rain leaks through those holes and it smells pretty dank in the winter. Good-luck bro.

Thanks. Big lesson learned I guess. Wash often and thoroughly.

Double check your warranty or recall notices.  My Tacoma paint just started peeling and I find out it's an ongoing problem for white toyotas.  I may have to fight them to get it covered.  All manner of toyotas are covered in an extended 15-year paint warranty fro the white 040 color but not Tacomas (Not enough complaints yet, they told me from Corporate.  Which I say is just bullshit)

Bushy

Good to know, My 2012 White Tacoma started pealing near the window on the passenger door.  I had a 1983 Blue Toyota truck that started pealing at the same exact location.  I was informed that I had brought the blue one in just outside of the paint recall window.  Other than a dealership, anywhere else to complain to get an extended warranty?

Amazing how fast salt can destroy a vehicle.  When the beaches were closed during covid, I resorted to launching at boat ramps.  The process of pulling the kayak up off the ramp into the truck destroyed the tailgate, bumper, and tow hitch pronto.  Luckily the frame is ok, and those parts are easily replaced on my Tacoma.

My 4Runner developed serious rust bubbling along the right hand side of the windshield, right where this drip from my AI would always drip... It's bad and I need a new window, worried about what it will cost to fix.

Andrew,
I had a pristine International Scout I brought from Texas and in the 2 yrs I had it stored at a friends house in Pacifica it rusted through the rockers and rear fenders, mind you it was not driven just parked, so yeah the salt air moisture can do this to a vehicle. I have restored multiple cars and Trucks cutting out rust and replacing metal, just did an entire cab on a 73 square body chevy truck cut out almost the entire cab and re-welded new sheet metal in place. this is the advice I would offer anyone water enters anywhere there is a seam even on uni-body vehicles. 3m Seam sealer around any seams or entry points will go along way to solving rust issues. In heavy salt areas a cold water rinse can't hurt. A lot of rust can just be surface rust and a rust converter sprayed on will help greatly. The way you determine if it's surface vs structural is take an sharp screwdriver or ice pick and punch the rust spots if it goes through its structural and can't be replaced short of cutting it out.

Not to thread jack, but you didnt happen to get it from the Scout madness people in Lubbock did you?  I was born and raised there and when I was 15 (~'95), I saved my money and purchased a beat up, super rusted out '76 International Scout II for like $600.  I then paid those guys ~$3-4k and they completely restored it to pristine and I drove that truck through high school.  Ended up selling it before college, but regret doing so.  The problem was the horrible gas mileage and the fact that at 55 mph, it was a "warp speed 9.8" experience.  Really miss that car!

I took it to a body shop today. Turns out they don't do rust work but they gave it a look anyway and estimated that a proper repair could be $7K. Two rear quarter panels and possibly the roof depending on how far the rust has spread. Pretty discouraging.
