Probably discussed to death, but bringing it up again anyway.  What's your favorite braid?  Going to spool up my finally shipping Avet 5.3 when it arrives, so going to buy some braid to spool it.

My go-to has always been PowerPro, have it on most of my reels.
Dependable, somewhat waxy and frays over time

Started using Suffix832 on some, about the same price as PP
Dependable, not as much fray or waxyness as PP

Daiwa J-Braid I recall being considered high end, but now it's about 1/3 the price of PP and Suffix.
Worth trying it?

Any others people like?  Not going with Kasktking, the dye gets all over everything.

I use the 3 lines mentioned interchangeably. I have all my tuna rigs with either Metered J Braid (x8) or Powerpro, all my salmon, hali, and rockfish gear is Powerpro too. I use 832 on my striper casting gear.

It all seems pretty similar to me, and i agree with your assessments on quality and usage

Metered Jbraid sounds pretty cool, I think I'll check that stuff out!

Here is that awesome spreadsheet for refence on strength and diameter and stuff.

Power pro lasts so long and is smooth through the guides, but now I have a bunch of that okuma stuff so ill try it out next.

i love PP Superslick V2. I've been using for a couple of seasons now and just bought a 3,000 yd spool of 40# and use it for everything from bass (it casts a mile) to Salmon.

I have had no issues with flaking or any other concerns I've heard from other coated braids.

Conversely, Spiderwire has been the worst i've used with near immediate fraying in salt water.

You know, buying a big spool next year to re-do my reels sounds like a great idea!  I've not tried superslick V2 though, guess I never noticed it before.  Only a couple dollars more than the regular stuff and 8x?  Hum, seems like a good choice to try out, thanks!

But I think i'm going to try the metered j braid and will at least know that's jbraid on the reel and be able to compare later to PP on my other Avet.

I have two Avet SX / Phenix 806 setups. Great “do it all” combo for just about any Bay Area saltwater fishing. Good choice.

The Phenix 806 looks great! Any issue handling it on the kayak with that long butt?

Not really sure how long it is, but visually doesn't look longer than my Lamiglass, or if it is maybe a couple inches longer?  Will let ya know  :smt003

I've only used PP and Sufix832. Of those, I much prefer the latter...

Swapped a couple of my 20-40 lb setups to Berkley Prospec.  Thinnest diameter for each rating, casts well, stacks well.  Used the spool balances to fill up a couple bass reels and like it so far. Don’t think they make it in green so I have to sharpie it for camoflauge.  Good stuff though.

I really like the prospec braid. I have it on my heavier rigs.

Daiwa JBraid grand is good stuff too. Get the grand, not the standard. But don’t use it for spinning gear, it doesn’t like spinning gear.

And finally berkely x9 is also good stuff.

FWIW. I’ve used power pro regular, slick, and v2, 832, spider wire, fins, pline tcb8, and viscous no fade.

I just ordered some sunline defier braid to try on spinning gear too.
