New Member here and have only been kayak fishing in the ocean once--- and that was reef fishing in Mendocino, so nothing too challenging. I have a couple of questions to the old-timers regarding gear...

First, I am looking to get into a used 13' Revolution (when you live on a houseboat and don't have a garage, you get everything used -- because it's tough to care for new stuff. I am am deciding between newer, with Vantage seat, or older, with the old seat. Are there are any paddling/stability issues associated with that lawn-chair style seat?

I guess I'll save the other questions for once I have a good fishing kayak...

I will definitely be interested in finding folks to go out with, as my friend group does not do this.

Welcome to NCKA Sasha!  :smt006  My 2c on older vs newer Hobies is there are basic design changes and tradeoffs over the different years they were made.  The older ones in my opinion are more stable without the vantage seat and they are also lighter and a lot cheaper than newer ones.  However the new designs are slick, have more options for mounting stuff, are also heavier.  Most people do not complain however on the stability of the new seat and it can be more comfortable than the old.  Best advice is to see what you can get your hands on to demo, preferably  both to make a comparison.  Good luck and see you on the water!

welcome! sounds like an awesome situation - most any yak is a good yak, especially among the Hobie line

Welcome.

I've never used the newish lawn chair style Hobie seat, but I have spent a lot of hours in the older style seats. So, I can't comment on stability, butt comfort-wise (see what I did there?), it seems to me that most people can make the older style seats work after a fashion--some extra padding is a good idea, as it's pretty Spartan...
