Bushy youre safe, way more likely they’ll go for the chubby guy who’s floating around in the black wetsuit with no yak under him (me)

Too much shark talk lately, on coastside too  It’s wearing on the nerves

In interest of full disclosure, I gtota admit I'm just a little nervous. Tomorrow will be my first go-out since getting chased around the ocean by a big GWS.  I have a shark shield now that helps. Pretty sure once I get out and especially once I catch a fish the weebie jeebies will disappear. Stats are way with me.

PTSD. Post Traumatic Shark Disorder.

Bushy, So glad you got back out so quickly. The question is did you, or will you, really ever feel like you did before… the total enjoyment of the experience of why so many of us do the things we do… whatever that is.  I have gone through many feelings since my yak shark attack experience in August 2020. The first initial reaction was stuff the anxiety and “man up” as some of us were raised in that societal context… to a variety of other reactions over time. My latest is raised levels every time I hear of an attack and then I see the whole event in my mind over and over again. When I go out my head is on a swivel and with every noise and feeling get it going. I had a very interesting conversation with a NatGeo producer yesterday who shared an experience with me about a non shark accident related to chasing his edge. We were having this same conversation about will we ever be back to where it was? Very, very interesting and one only those who get this will ever be able to fully experience or maybe understand. Just saying… be real to yourself and take care.

Ran in to Bushy and his client, along with Jim Goz by the cleaning station.  Always happy to see a real OG  :smt006  Looked like you and your client had a great time!

Way to go Bushy!  IMHO, its important to make sure that you have all the necessary nerves, thoughts, and wisdom to make a critical decision correctly.  Event like yours could skews one of the elements.  Glad that you went over the fear hump.

Thanks all!  Great to see Goz and AHO at the cleaning station. Great to meet and fish with Ron who has inherited the madness I'd wager.  Dr Dave I hear you. So well-put. "Chasing his edge." I guess that's part of what we do in a way. I really felt fine yesterday maybe just a little more vigilant scanning 360's. Definitely relaxed and enjoying. I also hear you that traumatic incidents can have more lasting effects.  My interaction was nowhere near as critical as yours, I think.  I'm possessed of a time-tested and proven denial system, and have spent years establishing work-arounds to access self honesty.  So far so good LOL.

I guess everyone chases something....or perhaps not. If we just wanted to catch fish we could go find a pond with sunfish in it, right? There is something about the sea and everything that goes with it. I was thinking about what you experienced and I believe each event has its stuff that goes with it. So many "attack victims" never see it coming or going. Seeing the shark is one thing, watching the shark stalk you or experience something with the shark after the initial attack is another.  I think I might have ruined my dry suit from the inside if I would have watched a shark trail me or worse my own kid... And yes, my denial system works great as well.  :smt001 I believe I got that from my dad... he use to duct tape up significant wounds so he could keep working... at least I use something a bit more sterile and then keep working... :smt044
Glad to hear you are finding that place again. The SS sure gives a sense of confidence!... when my starts to beep telling me the battery is running low I start to head in.  :smt003
