I just bought a Garmin Striker Vivid 4cv to replace my recently deceased 10+ year old Garmin 301c. It looks like a nice upgrade, but I'm a bit nervous about the connection between the head unit and the piece that attaches to the base (see the picture). It seems a lot less secure than what was used on the older Garmin, and I can imagine bumping it and having to fall off on the water, and sink out of sight...

I was thinking of super gluing to together. Is there a better option?

I have the same ff and have never had a problem. It's actually pretty strong.

Just adjusting the angle causes it to fall off sometimes. It might not be likely, but I could imagine a lot of different ways that it could get bumped hard enough to drop off.

I used marine goop on mine and it's holding strong.

that's a good idea, I think I'll do it to mine as well.  I've had it over a year now, haven't lost it (yet), but it does like to pop off at the most inopportune times.

Thanks for the replies. I used Gorilla glue, since I had some handy. I don’t think it’s coming apart anytime soon…

I've also noticed that each Striker 4 has two machine mounts on the back, for a small, fine thread machine screw.  I've often thought about attaching a leash to the unit somehow...and will probably get serious about it after I lose one.  For now, I used some Mariner goops I had on the unit I use on my boat, I'll glue up the guest boat after I try it out in the water.

Thanks for mentioning this.

There is one of those threaded inserts on my old Garmin FF, and I leashed that when I first got it. But the connection system was so sturdy, I eventually ditched the leash. Since the connection seems a lot more iffy on my Striker 4, I think I'll go back to the leash...

I was a little iffy about the mount too - mostly because I am pretty clumsy...  I attached a stretchy lanyard to the machine screw mount, I think it was an M4.  I just sandwiched the lanyard between two washers.  Def gives me a little more confidence/peace of mind knowing that if I bonk it with a paddle or rod that it isn't going to sink, haha.

Great idea Brian, Thanks. Mine has been solid but a little insurance never hurts.

I'm kinda diggin on the glue idea. I've knocked mine off several times OTW and it generally results in a rather colorful outburst....lol.

Yeah, not a fan of the mounting system on this one!

Seems like a set screw or something could have been added make sure it's firmly in place once seated.

Now you got me thinkin Al. How about epoxying a small bolt to the back of the striker and drill a matching hole on the mount. Then just add a wing nut for security? Gonna play with this idea tonight.
