As I just got married yesterday.  Flew to Vegas, got a suite at the Bellagio, had the family's there and did the deed!  Now I have to get used to this darn ring!

Troy,

Sounds like condolences congratulations are in order.   You'll get used to the ring, just make sure you don't loose it while you're out on the water.

In my opinion WAF isn't really that much different the GAF, just a slighty higher ring on the "ladder of lost fishing days".  Throw a baby in the mix and suddenly a nice high level of WAF and weekends full of fishing are nearly impossible.  Your journey on the ladder will have you up and back down a few rungs over the course of your life.

Here's my take on the "ladder of lost fishing days"  I'm sure there are a lot of levels I haven't included.

Wife with newborn twins/triplets/etc   <--nearly impossible to get out fishing  (very low WAF, lucky to get out once a year)
Wife with toddler and newborn
Wife with newborn
Wife with toddler                            <--  I'm here.  (moderately low WAF, can fish once or twice a month)
Wife with older kids who don't like to fish
Wife                           <----unless you have kids already, you're probably here! (moderate WAF, can fish a few times a month)
Engaged
Girlfriend - long term
Girlfriend - seriously dating
Wife with older kids who do like to fish   <--  taking the kids fishing actually earns you more WAF!  (I believe SCWAfish is here)
Girlfriend - newly dating
Player                               <-- no WAF/GAF to worry about but you need to balance weekends (fishing vs hitting the clubs)

That's great Brian you should insert that in Pat's article. :smt003

one you forgot is

WIFE WITH ADULT KIDS : Can fish anytime but has to plan around other activities. Positive and Negative things both gain WAF. if you do something nice she says you should go fishing :smt007. if you do something that pisses her off she says WHY DON"T YOU GO FISHING. :smt013

Congratulations! :smt009

IN dictionary the synonym WAF stands for, Wife Allows Fishing only

1.After taking care of everyone of your chores. Her list not yours.
2.Going to her choice of movie's to include any chick fleck out at the theater or on T.V.
3. Then responding in the proper fashion," Yes Dear". A slight bow of the head helps but watch the angle and avoid eye contact.
4. Oh yeah, "Lord forbid", that you leave a toilet seat up just prior to a tournament
and what Mahi Mahi said.

Just celebrated 20 yrs. of this bliss 9/8/07 yesterday
And what the rest of the brethren said. Please disregard what any bachelor has to say especially  MOOCH...

But all kidding aside Congratulations :occasion16:

Hey Troy congratulations :smt006

Like Frank, I have been married for over 20 years and fished all of them.  It is harder when the kids are toddlers but here are some tips...

Get your wife and kids into fishing early. We have a family fishing derby on my birthday every year. Initially, a tandem works well when the kids are little. Eventually you end up with 3 or more yaks. When starting out take them to a place where catching is likely, size doesn't matter.

Big chores earn big trips but plan early. For example, if you want to go on a multi day trip, you may want to do a major home project.

Plan getaways to places where shopping is close to fishing, for example Carmel, Healdsberg, Mendocino, Lake Tahoe, La Jolla and Dana Point. Then she can shop while you fish.

Lastly, plan your fishing around your family time. When the kids are grown you can fish almost as much as Joel and you will be wondering where the time went. Those years when your kids are growing up are really special, and if you raise them right they will grow up to be yak anglers and help you load your yak on your car when you are old  like me. :smt003 :smt003

Congratulations, Troy!  Don't worry about losing the ring...it'll get tighter over time, until it reaches the point where it'll never come off.  Or so it will seem.   :smt002

Congrats Troy. Been married for a couple of years and great. Listen to what GB2 has to say... words of wisdom.

WAF is all about understanding each others needs.  I hope you've established a prenuptial understanding that when you want to go fishing, she needs to let it happen!

No seriously, that was one thing my old boss used to tell me when.  I salmon fished with him a lot and he was always impressing upon me that you should just be up front about fishing expectations (yours and hers).  GB2 put it very well, that that needs to happen early on.  Minor disapproval during the honeymoon stage tends to extrapolate to a gigantic "HELL NO" later on.
