I have to pick up a piece of equipment in Soquel on saturday. I am hoping to do a little diving before the pick up. Anyone going out of SC or Monterey?

I would stay away from Monterey Bay for a while. Scuba divers spotted another 13-15 ft Great White at Hopkins Reef. The Aquarium has cancelled all their diver activities in the bay.

I guess I'll just have to dive the bean.  :smt011

All joking aside, thanks for the heads up Leony. My personal feeling is that they are always there. With more people in the water, there are more sightings. Granted there maybe a slight baby boom going on to increase the numbers. Although with international long lining and commercial by-catch on the increase , I have to think that will offset the baby boom.

The greatest benefit of more sharks means that more seals will meet their fate.

I don't have a wetsuit or gloves yet, but if you guys are interested maybe we can go out for a dive next weekend (hopefully by then the sharks will be full)...I'll go out and buy the gloves and rent the wetsuit.

Go to Carmel. The vis is better there anyway.

Lovers Point in Monterey would be a great spot to dive - we may even spot a few halibut in the area.....

Lovers Point?
Check out the official GWS thread of the past few minutes.
The dead seal @ Hopkins is a few tail flicks away.

Steve,

I can't seem to view page 21 on the officail GW thread.

But speaking of dead seal, I did see one at Bean Hollow last Monday (on my home from New Brighton State Beach)...I forgot to post it on my NB report.

These pics were taken on Monday - Sept. 3

I was joking with a friend and we think that the dead seal at Hopkins was sacrificed to try and scare aware spearfisherman and kayakers from fishing the soon to be expanded reserve.

Next weekend is the girlfriend's mother's bday. She says I can go...but I better come home with LOTS of fish and be home early.  :smt010
