Lake Mendo smallmouth 9-5-07

I hit the lake at the crack of 0730 hours and headed for the south side. I saw one small boil, but then it went flat. I hooked a 17" smallmouth dragging a brown beavertail.

I did see a bunch of small boils near the south side of the dam but wasn't able to get to any before the ended. It would have been a good day for minnows! I was watching the striper chase them out of the water. It was cool!

When I went to measure my smallmouth, I discovered that I had forgotten my new tape measure, so I just used my paddle. Once I got home I compared the paddle tape to a real tape and found that the paddle measures about a half inch too small at 17". Just think of the the AOTY points I have given up!

Thanks, he did fight real hard. Nope.......I have yet to catch a fish with that jig. For smallies I use a Roboworm beavertail looking softbait in dark brown with a small splitshot at the head of the hook. I just drag it real slow.
