Hey Mooch, I have seen plenty of large fish come out of the triangle.  Just not on my line

Me too  :smt003 In fact, I personally witnessed the All-time Kayak Connection Tournament record Halibut caught by Alex / Aliens = 32 pounds  :smt007 a few years back. I've given up trying to catch a legal ling, halibut  and striper in these waters. However, the King Fish fear me BIG TIME  :smt002

All I hear from the locals is "you should have been here YESTERDAY"  :smt044

New Brighton, Capitola and Santa Cruz is now officially "The Mooch Triangle"  :smt044

Got to use the Fully rigged Trident for the first time....the color FF (Hum 383) was really cool to look at...

Hey Joel -

Does your Hummingbird 383 have an internal GPS antenna or external? If internal does it receive satellite signal with the sonar shield propped on top?

Thanks! Scott

It was a really fun weekend that ended too soon.  fishing stunk but the companionship was great.  Couldn't have asked for better weather just to lounge.  All in all, an awesome weekend!

There was a ton of bait in the water, with birds crashing and smelt and other bait fish slamming the sabikis.  I dragged around a few nose hooked smelts on #4 circlehook with a sinker release for nada.  Not even a shark.

The saturday morning paddle was kind of trippy.  I urged the group to go north toward and past the capitola wharf.  We did.  By the time the fog had lifted, it turned out we were just about to Pleasure Point!  Very easy paddle with basically pancake swell and really warm conditions.  Wind did pick up by about 12PM but nothing major.

Scott - it does have an internal antenna but I did not notice if the GPS functioned properly with the sonar shield resting on the head. I'm still trying to figure out the whole unit - but I will post about it as soon as I learn more on the features.

Thanks for posting the pics.  Getting one of me on a kayak is almost as rare as the Capitola WSB...

Fishing definitely could've been better but couldn't ask for a better weekend.  Great company, campsite, and food.  I'd love to camp here again and use it for a base camp for fishing other locations.   It was great hanging out with you guys!  Kevin

I'd be careful around Toby. With eyes like that, he'd probably rip you a new one!!  :smt005 What a cutie! I'm starting to believe Monterey Bay has plenty of bait and no fish!!!  :smt011 Looks like a good time in spite of eating burgers in place of grilled halibut...  :smt002

Mooch, how do you like the ride; what can you tell me about the characteristics of the Trident in terms of how does it handle?

Mike, the more I'm using it, the more I'm liking it....my only complaint is the weight  :smt011 (maybe I just need to hit the gym more often or hire a full time sherpa :smt003) It handles the surf even better that the P15 (got to test it in BH on Saturday on really BIG conditions). It's slow on the starting line but as soon as you get it moving, it glides like the P15. The added storage "rod pod" helps ease my mind when doing surf landing. Stability, it's better than the P15....but then again, I never had issues with the stability of the P15. The dry ride on the Trident really got me by surprise. I used to "not mind" sitting on water with the P15 but now I think it's an improvement  :smt002 And ike Kevin had mentioned earlier, the Trident is really made for the bigger and taller boys. So if you fit in this category, give it a test ride and see for your self  :smt002

Let me know if you want to test drive one -  we can meet at the Aquatic park in San Mateo this Thursday....I'll be meeting jfish at 5:30 PM for an hour (he wants to test drive the P15 & the P13. I can bring the Trident if your interested.

I saw a hali come in off a kayak on that beach just yesterday.  It wasn't huge, but it was good looking -- "The other white meat"   I was weeping inside, trying to keep my jealousy from being too obvious.

Mooch, if you're REALLY nice I'll give you GPS waypoints for rockfish off of Capitola.  I live right in town there and I have literally never missed finding at least some decent rockfish at my special spot.  Heck, you suck up enough and I'll show my sooper sekrit halibut waypoint.  Of course, I'll make you pay in a % of the fish you catch... :smt002

Nice to hear from you again Joel...thought we lost you there for a second  :smt003

When you get some water time, I'd appreciate a guided trip from a local  :smt002 Help me break the curse of the "Mooch Triangle" and you'll be rewarded for life....."a spank in the ass everytime we bump into each other"  :smt003 Just like when basketball players spank their teamates ass when he makes the free throws  :smt002
