To finish this thread, I sent the unit in for repair and they were not able to repair it. Instead, they sold me a refurbished unit for $275. Good news was they did not have any refurbished units so they gave me a new one for the same price. If they were able to fix it it would have been an $85 charge. I was happy with their support and they handled it all quickly. I'm pretty sure I broke it by dragging it under my kayak while extended through the scupper hole.

That is a great deal!

I dragged mine thru the sand like that several times, and it never seemed any worse for the wear. Eventually (like 10 years of use), the plastic on the wires that run from battery to the whip cracked. I suspect UV might have been the culprit.

Anyways, I have not been using a shark shield this year, but I'll be getting a used one next week. After the attack at Lover's Point, I think I'll be using it all the time from now on...
