There is guy on Youtube who salmon fishes off the WA coast in a sit in, he uses these fish looking weights that get him down to where he wants to be.  Honestly I don't see the need for a down rigger on a stealth, but that is my humble opinion.

3. Braid is quieter than wire. I swapped my wire out for 120 lb specta braid. Power pro makes a DR specific braid

If you do go with a DR on any kayak, use braid, not wire, and carry a knife so that you can cut the DR ball free in an instant, if need be. I won't retell my DR/whale story for the umpteenth time, but trust me on the importance of this...

Update to this, look at some of the PNW Setups for trolling, 10-20 once weights on the mainline just above the flasher.  No release.  Simple an effective, weight varries on conditions depth and current.

they do use barbed trebles however, so the lead swinging around isn't a big deal

FML seems to be doing well with a diver and a flasher directly connected to it, when his downrigger isn't working.

Okay I wanted to post this guys video: he is pretty hardcore, fishes buoy 10 on the Columbia and some other places, catches a lot of fish, takes a sit inside down class III.  No down rigger, no flashers.    or search for Ray Borbon.

Fair points.
On the flasher bit, I can’t say I’ve noticed a difference for ocean salmon fishing.

Follow up info, this is not the guy I was referring too, but he has fished with him in the past. His name is Roy Borbon and he is of the same mind set that you don't need a all that extra gear, he fishes with lead weight to get his lure/bait down, and he looks to be very successful in his technique.  He also fishes from a sit inside, so excess gear just seems to be too much to deal with.  I urge to watch some of his videos, he has good pointers for salmon fishing with cutting the butt of the rod and shortenting our nets to make them more kayak friendly.  In couple of his videos, he is going down some whitewater in touring yak.

Does he only fish clear water or small bodies of water?  Flashers are to draw fish in from far away or get them to notice your bait when visibility is low.  I do see the value in not using one, vs always using one.  But to say that you should never use one, is what I think is stupid

Hi Al, good question.  He fishes all over.  Check out his videos, he fishes Bouy 10 on the Columbia, all over Puget Sound, Strait of Juan De Fuca, Neah Bay, Places up in Alaska I have no idea where.  I am trying to hook up with him to go out with him, but I am still doing home PT following the knee surgery.
