ISO VHS Radio recommendation

So no offense intended with my last post, it's only my opinion and you know what they say about opinions.  I'll retract specifics about Cobra's as I haven't owned one myself.  I did however purchase a Uniden battery powered VHF for my first radio, and it died within a months time, it couldn't handle any bit of saltwater even thought it said "waterproof".  But also I see time and time again someone joining the site and buying a 3000$ kayak, a 600$ fish finder, and then go cheap on something like a VHF.  Having been out on the water and actually hailing for assistance in a time of need, the last thing I ever want is to doubt if my VHF is going to work.  I'd say that a cheaper VHF is a good backup or loaner option.  But first get yourself a good marine VHF that is dependable and will stand the test of time.  For me that has been Standard Horizon, with an average of 4-5 years life out of them for about $120. 

I've been happy with my Standard Horizon.
