Hi all, anyone here use a bixpy on an outback via the Mirage drive insert? Curious to know how you guys have yours setup and where you put your batteries. TIA. Tight lines!

Saw a hobie cruising in under propulsion while launching before... was impressive. Reminded be of a battle cruiser. May have to look in to that one of these days.

I'd be interested to hear about any experiences with a Bixpy/Hobie setup too. A total weight of 9 lbs (according to manufacturer) makes it tempting...

Used it on the 26th at ARW, landed my first hali of the year. The performance is great! Just wondering how or where others put their batteries as I put mine under the seat and my cable is too short so it's kinda angled in a weird way, plus it's a tight fit. Other than that it's a great unit.

I was looking into this and I found a solution from "Texas Power Paddle" that lets you keep your mirage drive and have a motor. Looks really interesting and makes your kayak really versatile for various situations.

I would recommend a side mount setup for ease of access so you can clear the motor in case of debris (and you will get debris).

I have a raptor G2 with a rudder mount Bixpy and still use the mirage drive at the same time when needed.  It's great for hali bounce ball fishing, the lowest setting for my kayak is .9 to 1.2 mph.  When weight bounces, a peddle or two gets you up to speed.

I have been using Bixpy for the last 3 years.  I place the battery under the seat for Oasis and Outback kayaks.  As you can see from the photos, I attached a Cargo Bungee Net using GoPro leash mounts to prevent the battery from moving around.  Also, I clip to the vantage seat clip.

Please let me know if you have more questions.

Slightly off topic. Could someone provide the current draw of the Bixpy motor when running on high? Or, if you run in on high, how long would the battery last? I can't find this info on the Bixpy site. Trying to switch from a Watersnake to this setup, but I want to see if it's worth it.

Thanks,
ernest

I think when you are running at the maximum speed it last approximately 70-80 minutes.  The remote has 12-speed control, I think.

I'm skeptical of those claims. On the Hobie forum, one TI owner says he got a speed of 3.4 mph on full throttle, and he wasn't anywhere close to the weight that they claim. If you're interested, it's the 2nd post from the bottom of this page:

I can't recall the testing parameters but I am sure they tested at the most optimal conditions.  My wife typically runs at low and mid-speed to optimize battery use.
We have been happy with Bixpy Jet and currently own two jets and four batteries.  They also provide outstanding customer service and very reasonable replacement part prices.

Thanks all for the inquiries. Awesome group! I was messing with the yak last night with the buxpy installed and I decided to just put it in the front hatch. As far as performance goes, last I took it out at ARW I pretty much used it the whole day varying speeds to adjust for trolling, current, etc. And often times jump to max speed to hunt other spots and at the end of the day I still have enough juice. I'm also rocking the j2 btw. Thanks all. Tight lines!
