Come kayak surf LM

This is not an April fools day post. But might be foolish still 
I’m thinking of hitting LM today between 10-1pm for a surf session on my Revo 16.
All are welcome. Bring a kayak, wetsuit, pedal, GoPro, and yourself

There are tons of surfers out at Linda Mar today and most days. You'd be better off going down to HMB and kayak surfing at Mushroom Rock where you won't be a danger to others. I'm all for practicing surf skills, but kayaks and surfers generally are not a good mix (i do both BTW).

Yeah a 70+ pound kayak crashing through heavy traffic in the surf probably isn't the safest thing to do.....or pissing of a bunch of surfers. Mad props though on getting out there and practicing the skills Lilorca. You're a savage

Thanks guys! I do agree about the comment on the surfers and safety. Although I would say it’s not like there’s one surfer and I’m in their way. It’s more like tens of surfers, moving fast towards the skulls of their buddies on boards with sharp tips. Anyways, when I’m in the water I always think about the safety of others around me, and specifically today I was in the whitewash zone, not where the surfers are staging.

I held up good until I flipped and realized I forgot my PFD (?!!!)

Was there more than one attempt? You made it through the smaller stuff ok. On the one that got you if you would have dug deep with a couple paddle strokes while you were on top of the whitewater I'm pretty sure you would have made it through.

In watching the aftermath you're lucky you didn't get taken out by your kayak -- especially without a PFD. It looks like it goes right over your head as it's getting washed to the beach.

Will be interesting to compare with the POV footage.

I've seen plenty of bad accidents with runaway surfboards ranging from breaking other people's boards to bad injuries.

Even a surfer using a surfboard without a leash in the lineup would get some shit talking to if they lost control of their surfboard and didn't hold on to it, leaving it washing away in the whitewater. 

A wild 75lb+ kayak is way more dangerous than a surfboard and a swimmer or surfer can enter the water behind you and you won't know it till it's too late.

There are tons of less crowded beaches where this practice would be fun and safe.

Glad no injuries were incurred.

Plantings the paddle can definitely help. If forward momentum is lost, those are the times that I get tossed when timing is off. Looked like a lot of energy in that wave.

This probably isn’t the smartest thing to do especially around a bunch of surfers and without your PFD.

 Why were you just hanging out in the breaker area and paddling so slowly? It’s like you were waiting to be pummeled by the waves.

I was in the breakers zone because that’s how you practice handling the kayak in the breakers. I didn’t realize I forgot my PFD until I flipped over. I took my paddle leash off when I launched because it was more convenient, but in retrospect it would have helped me (the kayak was swept ashore, and I would have been pulled with it).
It made me think of a strong anchoring point for the leash in a situation like this. What do folks use?
