I like this thread!  Nothing like a sea creature coming between you and your fishing buddy!

I'll play. First outing with my oldest on a rental kayak, and then a month or two later his first fish. Still working on the younger ones,  but my oldest (13) is really into it. Launching at Sherman tomorrow in pursuit of the wiley striper.

Nice. How big is that halibut in the photo by you namesake steps?
45” 39lbs!  Was absolutely floored when I saw it come up under my kayak.  75fow in front of Steamer Lane.  It was a battle getting it in my kayak, ripped open my dive stringer and dove, twice - and I had only barley hooked it through some flesh on it’s lip.

Sweet photos. I would have been tempted to take the head of that deep sea eel monster thing but it probably smelled so bad. Where did you find it?
Found it on the big island while I was walking Captain Cooks cove beach at sunrise - got there super early before Rob, my Hawaiian brother from another mother, he had all the gear and took me out.  It’s a Morey eel, he was telling me stories of Hawaiian dudes who dive and catch them live and then rig them up for GT.

The salmon in my picture were caught in 65 fow outside of Mitchell’s Cove, so you might not have to go far…

That’s awesome to hear, I lived near the corner of Almar on Oxford for 6 years and didn’t get lucky on the Salmon.  Was a great beach to launch from, there was a humpback and her calf one year gorging  on anchovies right up against the beach, they came in so thick they were washing up on the shore.  I was able to paddle out and dip net a small bucket of achovies then hit the deeper water for a three weeks.  I’m so excited to start fishing again this year!
