The catheter idea won’t work for me. My Banana is bigger than that! Maybe I could duct tape that funnel to it. Yeah, that just might work.
I fish, therefore I Cuss and Lie!

Anyone that mounts a gas engine to their yak must wear a a dick funnel tube.  From now on.  Gorilla tape only to test your commitment.

I’m about ready to pull the trigger on a Kokatat drysuit, question is drysuit vs semi-drysuit. For north coast ocean kayak fishing is a
semi-drysuit adequate?
Doesn’t a dry suit have a tighter less comfortable neck seal and built in socks?
I’m seeing semi-dry suits are under$700 and dry suits are over $700
Besides the yak this is one of this sports bigger investments, I’d like to get it right.
Thanks

I have the Kokatat semi-drysuit, and it has been great. I did 2 surf zone classes with it where I spent most of both days tumbling under water. Only about a tablespoon of water after each day around the neck. My kayak had to pumped out a couple of times each day after gallons got in somehow.

Scotty the semi-dry be comfy.  :smt001

Been thoroughly submerged underwater in surf both head down and upright also, and water intrusion usually minimal(one time kayak had flipped broadside and i was still sitting in the seat while underwater, thinking.. hey i'm underwater and sitting in my kayak. Had to get my bearings. Which way is up, kayak/wave direction.. Ok better swim).

If the situation arises where you're separated from the kayak or such with snug well fitting PFD/radio... if you're toast, you're toast. Other factors probably have more significant bearing if survival is the consideration.

I prefer the semi-dry suit.  yes, because of the neck gasket.  I trim and stretch that gasket but wtill feel srangled sometimes.

Thanks for the input Mark,  Allen and Eddie!
At the moment I think I’m going with the
Kokatat Hydrus 3.0 Supernova Angler Semi-dry Paddling Suit!
Man  you really have to study up a bit with those names, alot there.
$750
There’s alot of options out there but this one seems pretty good and has a lifetime warranty! kind of…
Thanks

Drysuits have pee zippers.  I've never peed in a drysuit.  And don't divers usually pee in wetsuits?

This drysuit seems to be in $1400 range. Neoprene neck and wrist gaskets. Probably beefy design. Has pant pockets!

I've used the NRS paddle pants at La Jolla in San Diego, launching and landing in the surf for winter fishing.

(As you might imagine in SoCal, for summer fishing, shorts or, for sun protection, light-weight synthetic long pants).

I had no complaints about leakage while launching or landing and, if I recall, probably having surf splashing over my waist, but not fully submerged for any significant period of time.

But I also never had a yard sale in the NRS paddle pants, so I can't speak to that.

I can say that if you're wearing a farmer john wetsuit, and you pulled the top down to take a leak, make sure you fasten everything back up before trying to land in the surf. The one complete yard sale I've had, I didn't have the my farmer john over my shoulders and it filled up with water in a way that could have been dangerous, but luckily I was in shallow water, and walking ashore rather than trying to get back on the yak, at that point. (not that anyone asked)
