I've done several wood projects both indoor and outdoor.  My preference is Teak oil outdoor and Tung oil indoor.  Several coats until you get the sheen you like.
Here's a table that is 15 years old, first finished with Teak oil and refinished last year.  A light rubbing with 000 steel wool was all the prep needed before refinishing.  I applied a coat of Pecan stain, then 2 coats of Teak Oil.  This table is left out in the weather all these years and looks good as new.  Refinish time was about 2 or 3 manhours over 2 days.

In this photo I used Tung Oil and built up a few coats to keep the rough finish from splintering.  The wood is Cypress from a swamp.  I used it for a mantel over the woodstove I installed in our bedroom.
