Hello NCKA, just got my first kayak (Hobie Outback 2019). Have been fishing all my life and am so excited to get into the water! Happy to be part of the group! I have ordered me Chinook PFD and NSF grizzly wet suit and will not be going out fishing until my neighbor teaches me how to self rescue. I live in Alameda and am a chef by day. Anyone in the area or open to giving advice on this new venture is welcome.
Tight lines,
Otto

Otto...

You may want to read my Yelp review on Half Moon Bay Kayak Company  (@ Pillar point).  I paid $300 for a 4 hour 1:1 class with Chris, the HMBK owner.  He went through all the attire, safety gear, Pros & Cons of each type, and brands. Then went over reading charts and wave theory to understand how waves work for & against kayakers, and how to read charts.

Then we got in for a lesson on surf launching and self-rescue.  Chris coaches and guides you through the whole process.  I feel this was possibly the best $300 spent in the entire Kayaking endeavor.

PS.. Alameda is cool (I'm in San Leandro) .. I did some Kayak testing in the canals @ Harbor Bay Isle.. Great spot to test out your yak and get acquainted in perfectly calm waters.
