If you needed more length, you could have removed the door of the glove compartment!

The nose is actually going under the glovebox and pushed right up against the firewall, so not much I could add there.  Like I said, I measured it all so carefully at the scrapyards, but a bit off on my calculations because the tape measure was never totally straight snaking under the seats on the wrecked versions etc.  It appeared I had a solid 12 feet, but I didn't figure in the extra 4 inches of the rudder.  So glad we made it...

TLW said you might want to pull that carpet and use a spray in bed liner so you can hose it out from time to time…… or your going to driving with a shoe smell  :smt005

Not exactly what you said you were looking for, but some of the SUVs let you open/roll down the window in the back gate.

If you can't find something smaller than a Suburban that will fit your yak entirely inside, you might consider those options.

I am also sure there are older Econolines that would fit your yak and get better mileage than your El Camino.

Very happy now with the Chevy Uplander. Seats out... probably took off 800#s of weight..really heavy seats.

So get this... the first day I drive the van.... yes first day... it breaks!  The cable shifter came loose from the transmission.  I was able to temporarily re attach and took it to a couple of shops and they insist it needs a new cable and both shops want over $400 for the job.  I go on youtube and there is a guy that shows it's just a hard plastic O ring that gets brittle and breaks.. and YES that is exactly what it was. He sells one and a little tool to push it into the connector for $20.  There is nothing wrong with the cable.. just an O ring that pushes over a little ball joint at the connector.

It's really crazy how auto shops just won't do these simple things and push for labor and parts that are not necessary.

Should be making the maiden voyage with the Yak in the Back this week!
