Maybe someone can throw a recipe for herring into the winter thread mix for variety

Back in the 70-80s I worked the herring season as a diver and never once occurred to me to eat them One year the Japanese decided they wanted the herring cheaper so I spent a whole winter sitting up nights waiting for the fishermen to go off strike

Our Italian friends are pushing me to catch little fishes for them to eat so might have to try throwing a net from the stealth

PS while we’re surfing Santa Cruz we’re seeing a lot of bait up against the shoreline, not sure what it is

Also for sake of maintaining some variety in the thread, I’m about to start a shift with very high likelihood the assignment will be one or more of those covid cases that don’t exist Some of them will make it and some of them won’t

Happy holidays

With Omicron now being the prevalent strain going on and not hurting a single soul, The virus has mutated to the point of being like a common cold.

I live out here in Texas and we gave up all those protocols so much sooner that what your state did and we have lower case loads. As a matter of fact so low they don't report it on the news anymore. We go about our daily lives interfacing wit one another, gathering in large groups and no one is getting sick.

There really is nothing to fear about the virus any longer, but I am sure y'all are being pounded daily by the media propaganda.

Well at first glance with 76,052 deaths it looks like California is winning the race compared to Texas with only 75,494 deaths, however, California has about 11,000,000 more residents. So California has 1,925 deaths per 1mil population, and Texas has 2,604 per 1mil population. So clearly Texas has been kicking California’s ass, and continues to do so.

We have to give credit to Donald Trump for pushing, and funding to get the vaccines developed in record time. He was on the news today letting everyone know he, and all of his family received their booster shots, and he was pleading for everyone to get theirs. He knows he will never get re-elected if his followers are dead.

Dude what a self own with this link-all you have to do is click on the top of the column "Deaths per 1M/pop" to re-sort and you will see that Texas is 26th highest at 2609 and California is 35th highest at 1928. Fortunately both states have faired reasonably well because of relatively high vax rates (CA at 65% and TX at 56%). Better than can be said for poor Mississippi and Alabama with the highest death rates and lowest vax rates.

As to surviving a lot just has to do with what medical care you have available

And btw my job is safe as it gets, I’m more grateful to the people at the grocery store register or wherever with higher possibility of exposure and less protections

Anybody know a great herring recipe?

I ate a can of Trader Joe's herring and it was very tasty, sardine esque, and I could never get my smoked herring to taste so delectable.  I hated picking through the bones because they weren't chewable.  My chef buddy said they pressure cook them to achieve that flakey firm chewable boney goodness.  I may experiment with brine then pressure cook then store in olive oil.  Hope I don't massacre the flesh and they stay whole yet like the canned texture... :smt006

I think you missed the massive amount of sarcasm in Mark L’s response.

Dont let any of this distract from the fact that in 1966, Al Bundy scored four touchdowns in a single game while playing for the Polk High School Panthers in the 1966 city championship game versus Andrew Johnson High School, including the game-winning touchdown in the final seconds against his old nemesis, Bubba "Spare Tire" Dixon.
