admittedly, i am fairly nervous about any ocean adventure.  but i do want to try it.  i dont want to invest in all the gear (radio and stuff)  only to discover i have an abnormal fear of all things "sharks"  (just an example, i am not afraid of shark..now bigfoot?!)  and never go again.

i am super comfy in freshwater lakes of all sizes.

i think a guide might be a good first few outings options.  someone to show me the correct and safe ways of doing things.  and how to catch a rockfish.

thanks for the help.  maybe next season!!

Both are outstanding people and I will second both suggestions.

And what’s this “next season” talk? We still have 29 days of bottom fishing to go!

Second that!  Evenings in the winter can be down right awesome times to hit the water.  Keep checking the weather, join a hookup, get sum!

How does this make you feel?

I love taking people out to show the ropes.  Seasickness is the biggest factor to consider, but yeah, sharks are a thing too.

Good luck~

Should probably giving crabbing a try first at Doran, and maybe jig some fish up by the head.. on a flat calm day…. Test your mojo .

Well your starting with the right attitude and that's a good. You should be a little afraid....RESPECT of the Pacific is MOST IMPORTANT. Day to day sometimes hour to hour it's a completely different beast so it's good to have some hesitancy, and continue to have. Starting with a good guide is a great way to start! While Sharks are always an element hypothermia and exposure are bigger risks so plan and be prepared.

I was the same way staring off in fresh water.  I hired Kyle and he was great.  I now fish ocean in kayak 95% of the time now.  I encourage you to try this spring rather than winter because it’s supposed to be less snarky although I’ve honestly never seen a gw shark and have been out dozens of times

You cannot go wrong with either of these guys.  Both great fishermen and skilled educators for our fantastic sport.

Can’t say about the ocean, but NCKA is certainly less snarky in the spring…
