well i fished clear lake from aug. 12th thru the 17th, fished a little bit from the kayak but mostly from a small aluminum boat i barrowed. i was staying in soda bay, that whole bay was coverd in the thickest weeds ive ever seen in clear lake, not just the weeds but there was also some floating algae about 2 inchs thick!! YUCK!!! with all the vegatation i thought th frog bite would be ok, but i was wrong :smt010 i fished all around soda bay the first day with only a few dinks caught on a drop shot with a purple worm, called it a day after that to spend time with the family. next day went out 7 am and drove south toward stag rock and buckingham, pulled out a nice 5 lber off of stag rock on a shakeyhead jig with a 8 inch red worm  :smt001 a few more dinks came off stag rock then i motored over to buckingham point to get out of the wind that picked up, started trowing a white fluke with a small piece of tungsten in the body (slightly faster rate of fall) fished for about a half hour with not even a hit, then i cast towards an isolated pole and my fluke got smashed by a 6+ lber had her on for a little bit sh jumped and spit the hook :smt013 . called it a day with about 4 fish landed bad day for clear lake!!!! Went catfishing off the kayak at about 8 pm paddled out about 200 yards and found a nice hole in about 20 fow spent 3 hours there and only caught 1 cat the only of the trip that went for 6 pounds (many other failed attempts). next morning went out at 6 am headed south past the soda springs island down around the island forgot what its called and saw bass boil right on the edge of the weeds so i broke out my trusty river to sea frog with a lime green belly and five min. into throwing it a monster blew up on it  :smt003 set the hook fought him for a second only to see her jump clear out the water and spit the frog right at the boat  :smt013 , thats the 2nd 5+ pounder that spit the hook this trip. Just as the boils began they stopped just as suddenly. i kept fishing that shore with a few dinks coming up, then when i got to the back of the bay i noticed a tree in the water as i got closer it looked better and better, when i got there i threw the fluke past it, let it sit for a second, twich, pause, twitch twitch pause, twitch nad BAMMMMMM!!!! LINE STARTS SCREAMING GAIN SOME LINE AND FINALLY SEE A NICE 8 LBER LIPPED, IN THE BOAT, WHOOO YEA AND THEN LET HER GO, what a fight on ulta light rod and 6 lb test, WHAT A RUSH!!! caught a few more dinks that day. the last day went to konacti and caught about 3 nice three or four pounders, all in all the fishing was slow but that 8 lber made the whole trip worth it.

Yeah, my dad told me the lake is looking very sad right now. He's spent his whole life there (almost 70 years) and can't remember seeing so much algae and weeds.

Glad you landed at least one of the nice ones.

Better late than never on the report sounds like you got a nice one there. One day I need to hit that place.

I clearly need to get out of my comfort zone and head up north.
the 8#er on the ultraL must have made your millinium, strong work!

I think you may be reffering to shag rock? great crappie hunting grounds.
