Good news:  I bought a new home.

Bad News:  The following pic is of the subpanel in my garage.  How much should I expect to pay to have someone unbond the neutral and ground and clean up the subpanel?

Fun side note:  My valve to the gas line to my furnace was seized.  I bought a clamp meter and tested the gas line.  It's carrying almost an amp load.  Sigh.

The wire nuts go on the top of the pic.  Thanks!

Looks pretty straight forward.
Shut off the power, and start rearranging.
I’d add another neutral/ground bar, get rid of the wire nuts, and maybe upgrade to better breakers.

If you were closer, then I could take care of you.

what’s wrong with the wire nuts ? If you want to dress your sub-panel then shut off your main and start dressing your panel nice and neat with zip ties.

That's my thought.  I do want a bigger sub panel, put in a 12 x 24, add another 220v dedicated for a table saw with room to expand for another 220v for the hot tub the wife wants.  Also banding the multibranch wiring on the upper right of the box.

But I'd happily pay someone else to do it.

Yeeesh not the cleanest work. Definitely could be tidied up. Hard to say on cost. Quick fix, you could just add a ground bar and shuffle some circuits around. Shouldn't take long. But if you're having an electrician come over, I would consider the possibility of just replacing the panel. That discoloration behind the main lugs could be worrisome. Hard to say just looking at the pic

How many amps is this subpanel rated for?  100a?
Looks like there's already quite a bit going to it judging by the number of tandem breakers.  It may only cost you a few hundred + materials if you want to go with a bigger subpanel size, to have more slots.

But if you need to size up the cable to get more amperage and a bigger panel, then you're probably looking at four digits.

Yes it's a 100a subpanel.  I don't think I need more.  I could also put the hot tub on the main panel, the main and the sub are equidistant to the slab.

Having DIY'ed just about everything imaginable on my house, I find electrical work to be by far the most enjoyable. If you do a bit of research and take your time, you shouldn't have a problem. And you might save enough for a new kayak...

First fill a big plastic tub with water, then get in, grab a couple sets of jumper cables and………. Oh wait I act LIKE you! Congrats on the new place post up some pics of the spread man, I’d go with a complete update on that sub panel, it don’t look to fresh if you get my drift. If I needed a vacation I’d come help but sometimes it’s better to let the “insured” do the electric work.
