Hum, that almost sounds like it's going to be WFO for Kayakers with hoops for the opener?

I had to look it up too. I'm really glad I picked up 6 hoops over the last 2 years.

It also says the recommended management action is to delay both fisheries for Zone 3 and 4.

The bullets near the top say delay commercial and trap prohibition for recreational. Where does it say delay both?

I also noticed deep in there something about possible delay commercial for domoic acid. Let's hope the next round of tests are clean.

Page 2 about 3/4 down the  second paragraph titled: "Season Delay/Crab Trap Prohibition"

"A season delay in those Zones for
both fisheries is the recommended Management Action based on the wide distribution of
Humpback whales across Fishing Zone depths and the likelihood of Leatherback sea turtles
remaining in the foraging areas of Zones 3 and 4. "

Thanks. A few lines down from that it says:
"As a result, CDFW Marine Staff’s preliminary
recommendation is a delay of the Fishing Season for the commercial fishery and prohibition on
the use of crab traps for the recreational fishery for Zones 3 and 4 until the next risk
assessment "

Nothing like a document that contradicts itself in a single paragraph. I'm going to stop trying to read these tea leaves and just wait for the final decision.

Yeah, I saw that too.  I figure it was CYA by the bureaucracy.  Whatever decision their dart lands on when they decide has already been suggested so they're all good.

Hoop nets are good at least

Well that is good news for those using hoop nets!!!  It looks like they are going to take another look on Monday November 1st.  Hopefully if they continue to implement restrictions it is done in moderation as apposed to a blanket delay across the board.

ok, so in 10/27 update
1. seems like the season is a go - no changes, no restriction
2. they reserve the right to modify restrictions at beginning and end? Beginning is just over a week out?  for me just a past time, I only have reservation $$$ at stake, cant imagine being a commercial guy under this ambiguity.

glad I have 5 lobster hoops, might save my season.

I believe I read that a report will be released Nov 1 in which they will make the decision.

I am banking on a closure email the afternoon of Nov 1.

Head north, Trinidad and shelter cove should still be open.  Or if that fails, Oregon.
