A friend and I decided to paddle to Catalina a few months back. After a a couple months of training, the time came and we found a perfect window to make it happen. The conditions for the trip to the island were the best ive ever seen, for 8 hours straight. It was incredibly flat and i was so relieved to have an easy ride. We trolled the whole way there for not a bite, but must have seen hundreds of dolphins jumping and swimming along. 22 miles later we made it. I just realized writing this whole trip out would be quite long, but we caught kelp bass, bonito, barracuda, halibut and  spotted bay bass. Rock climbed, hiked, swam, ate good food, camped in cool spots… 10/10 recommend. Not a bad paddle. Look out for the occasional tropical storm

That’s cool that you paddled all the way out there, with all that paddling I don’t think I would have enough energy to do any fishing. Some of the fresh n salty guys do mothership trips out there. Looks like a lot of fun.

Wow, that is some serious distance!  I think someone on the board did it with an AI, but paddling is definitely more challenging.

That's serious distance, wow!   But I thought Catalina was "26 miles across the sea ...".    4 miles shorter in a dry water year?
