Tomales is also a great place for sharks and rays.  Dustin "Rockhopper" would be the best to ask about this as I know he often shore fishes there for those species.

You should be able to jig up some jack smelt or shiners pretty easily with a sabiki.  Live bait's the best bet for halibut out there.

Fish it just like you would the SF Bay basically.  Same species.  Even some WSB reported in there recently.

Ditto what Erik said.

There's also a long shot chance at threshers in there. I've seen sturgeon jumping in there also, but never targetted them. There's stripers in there, too, but your best bet would be to target halis on the west shoreline, near Hogg Island...unless you wanted to try for leopards and rays.

If you're content with the latter, what I would do is drive down to Marshall and launch from the pull-out / rockwall and fish the deeper parts of that area. Even after a few sturgeon the best sleigh ride I've ever had was from a Tomales Bay batray.

Also, if you're into the whole leopard thing and you happen to be there during a low tide - flip over some rocks and get a midshipman or two to use as bait.

Thanks Guys :smt006,

Do you launch from that boat ramp area?  Guess I'll bring frozen anchove, squid and sabiki,

and if nothin else, I'm sure a big pull from bat rays will make the day.....

  Thanks,....... Danglin

If you want to head obver to Hogg Island your best bet would be to launch from Nick's Cove (the boat ramp area w/little pier) BUT they have been doing a lot of construction work there and I'm not sure if the parking lot has re-opened.

If you can't launch from Nick's there are plenty of pull-outs along Hwy 1 you should be able to launch from.

Danglin,

When are you planning on going? I've fished the bay once, but had no luck. I think I was fishing in the wrong spot with the wrong bait.

Rockhopper,

The launch you are talking about, is it on the North side, almost when you first see the bay? I launched near the back of the bay, near some pots. After I had no luck, I knew I was in the wrong spot.

Nope. I have to save the Google image to my desktop, then attached for it to work for me. Damn you Bill Gates!

Rock,

Do you think tomorrow would be alright for a bay trip? It looks like the wind and waves is going to kill my Caspar trip, so I'm thinking about hitting Tomalas.

CHEERS!

Thanks again...

Looks like I'll be going out Friday morning, By myself...

My brother in-law has just learned about WAF and his vacation schedule :smt011,

and has also learned he can not draw on his account till next week :smt005,

So, that's my gig, probably put up a hook up for this excursion, not sure on the launch spot yet...

Trying to deceiver the post you guys have put up and where stuff is...

I'm thinking of the public boat launch area, just because it will be easy to find.....

I've noticed guys fishing with two rods for halibut... Is this legal?... Danglin

I'm no expert, by any means, but according to iwindsurf's wind prediction and tides- tomorrow looks good and Friday looks VERY good.

In fact, if I wasn't going to Vegas Friday I'd be tempted to call in sick and hit Tomales, Paradise, or Berkeley.

Good luck fellas. I'm hopin' for good news!!
