Lake mendocino 8-21-07

I hit the lake at around 0645 hours this morning. Once I rounded the island on the South side of the South boat ramp I saw the familiar sight of boiling beauties! I paddled over and gt into the mix. I caught and released five striper. It was phenomenal!

Another great day on the lake. The boil was up and down for about a half hour, then nada! I tried for some smallmouth after that, but no luck.

looks like you were in the right place at the right time... How are you rigging your zooms? With a jighead or unweighted? Have you tried night fishing up there in the summer? I would think that could be great. Stripers are usually much more active at night, at least down in the salt they are. Way to get into em!!

I rig the Zoom with a small splitshot at the head. I hate to give up a secret, but I also throw Kaskmaster's into the boils. They work very well.

I have not tried night fishing. I am planning to do some catfishing at night. I hear barn cove is loaded.

I would park on the beach and fish just a few feet (10 or so) off the shore.  It was THICK with jumbo kitties.

  I didn't see any rod leashes attached to your rods.  Having lost 1 rod due to snag, I learned real quick to leash up the remaining rods.  Now I never leave the bank without them. (hooked up to the rods that is)

I think it was just the way he was laying on my legs. I didn't notice the deformity when he was on board, but who knows. I was in a hurry to get him back into the water so I could hook up again. I was trying to make up for the dry spell.

Found out i have to go to japan-- for a week, over labor day weekend!

Now WAF so low i can't even think about fishing without getting in the doghouse

WOW Mahi.. AB-SO-LUTE-LY hammerin' 'em!! Boils are so fun and especially when they hang around a while and you get to snag a bunch of fish. You got it down! Be warned though... we're studying your guy's tactics for BAMIII.
