Looking for some feedback on Hobie fish kill bags. I know for sure the size large is a actually made by Reliable and I've had those before and know them to be of excellent quality.   However the size large is 36" long and fits terrible on my 13' Revo so I think I'm going to return it. The size medium however is only 24" long...probably fine 90pct of the time but I think they would have been better making the medium 26 or 28" long instead.

Anyone using the size medium?  Really only going to be an issue for me if I'm lucky enough to bag a large salmon, and maybe the tail just hangs out the bag on those days...

The large fits great on the back of my Revo

Hi John,

The bag you saw yesterday on my revo was a large. Did it make my butt big?  :smt044
Just saying it took some time getting used to.

I have tried various softsided kayak catch coolers, including the Reliable cooler, but prefer to strap a hardsided cooler in the rear cargo area of my Revolution, because a hardsided cooler holds more fish and ice than a kayak catch cooler, a hardsided cooler has better insulation than any softsided coolers I'm familiar with, a hardsided cooler is easier to load fish into than a kayak catch cooler, and a hardsided cooler is easier to clean out after a trip than a kayak catch cooler.  I have various sizes of hardsided cooler which I use, depending on the size and number of the fish I hope or expect to catch.

Those triangular top-loading fish cooler bags made by a guy from Oregon were the best-designed catch cooler bags I've seen.  They had a zipper along the entire length of the top of the bag, they accommodated quite long fish, it was easy to load fish into them, and they had a low wind profile.  Unfortunately I failed to buy one before the guy quit making them several years ago. I wish some enterprising kayak angler would start producing a heavily-insulated version of those bags.

To preserve the quality of the fish which I catch, I bleed them and immediately put them on ice in a cooler in my kayak.  But a problem with any cooler is that loose ice tends to migrate to the bottom of the cooler, underneath the fish, and if you load a bunch of fish into the cooler, the fish on top of the pile can end up a long distance from the ice.  To keep my fish cold, I put at least half of my ice in a mesh bag. After I dump a fish into my cooler, I pick up the bag of ice and plop it down on top of the fish.

If you're not using a livewell for bait, I agree with pmmpete that a hard sided cooler is the way to go.
I don't like stuff that sucks.

Excellent idea.  That is definitely a problem.  Great solution.

I use this bag:

https://www.amazon.com/Elkton-Outdoors-Insulated-Handles-Leakproof/dp/B07DWHZ666/ref=sr_1_1_sspa?dchild=1&keywords=canyon+fish+bag&qid=1627313425&sr=8-1-spons&psc=1&spLa=ZW5jcnlwdGVkUXVhbGlmaWVyPUEyRlFGUTNOODE0MDJUJmVuY3J5cHRlZElkPUEwOTY2MjA0MzdSOEVRNFpVM0FGOSZlbmNyeXB0ZWRBZElkPUEwMDExNTEwMjdHRlRINUo0NjRTVCZ3aWRnZXROYW1lPXNwX2F0ZiZhY3Rpb249Y2xpY2tSZWRpcmVjdCZkb05vdExvZ0NsaWNrPXRydWU=

It folds up tri-fold style and even folded up, allows for up to 6 frozen water bottles inside.  Just sits in the back not really taking up that much space.  Once opened up, you have 40 inches in length to fit that hog inside.  I have held three >30" halibuts inside and there was plenty of room.  Durability is fantastic and the price is right.  Cant speak highly enough of this bag.  Ive had mine the past 2 seasons.

Those look perfect!!!  Low profile and the proper dimensions.

Looks nice!  Does it leak?  That's one thing I really liked about the Reliable product (had one in my fishing boat) they don't leak at all.

I use the reliable large and it fits on my revo 13. I have to squeeze the sides a bit so that the rod/net holders are accessible. I’ve also rigged some paracord where the bungee used to go to strap the bag down with some Velcro holders (I’ll take a photo later).

However, I did find these in Oahu and thought they might work well, especially the triangular one.

Some of those fish don't look like they fit in those coolers!  Nice problem to have!!  You find that to be a problem?
