Word on the street is that the Kraken never leaves the top of that van. Spotted it once across the road from where I work. Looked like easy peasy pickens but by the time I ran out there it was gone. Also, Eddie has massive aquarium setup in the back of the van where he keeps live bait at all times. He is always ready to fish.

Psssst …I got live bait …who’s your Daddy ? No popsicles here..only the live stuff..back of my van..

on a serious note why can't you run hose or tubing over the cables when you lock it down, to protect that badass fishing machine your getting....if  someone is gonna steal it and  make that kind of effort  ,cutters, sawzalls etc  ,they'll take it no matter what you try .build a better mousetrap ,you`ll get a smarter mouse

I grew up in Richmond .I was a trouble making kid.. the only thing that would stop us was our imagination when ripping shit off

I have used similar type material ( pic below ) over the cable locks even with the rubber/vinyl  coated kind
First bait hit is free...

Put this tubing over vinyl cable as a secondary obstruction?

Not so much that , I found that the thinner diameter of the cables , even with the coating bit a little into the kayak , didn’t care so much with my T13 it was old but with the Revo and the Eddy I didn’t like it ..I had a bad habit of tightening down like Mugilla Gorilla , the tubing eased the bite and and didn’t rub on the rack either

As far as obstruction, it won’t slow down someone that dedicated to stealing

I do like the pic with the Stealths that may be worth it

With cables added or a really thick ass chain  :smt005

Just brainstorming which for me can hurt LOL
Copy that, running over to picknpull to remove some rails hopefully and certainly considering that lock load contraption now that I “told” my wife, under duress, that this rack system is part of the non budget budget...hope I still come in under the estimate for the whole shuhbang(sp)...I had 5k to start and it’s gettin’ close.
Yak, paddle, drysuit, FF, rack, Sharkshield, Keeleazy, wheeleez, seat support, cover, swag...don’t make me add it up but truth might help...:smt006

Accounting came in at 1500 over budget.  Your tax dollars at work...glad biz is picking up.  Some items can be filtered through gifts and general maintenance purchases.  Wheeleez, drysuit, Sharkshield, so, I could justify certain cashblow, but it still hurts...since midlife crisis is not a real symptom it’s just life and according to my life expectancy on a hopeful allowance, I’m way past mid life... :smt005 :smt006

This.  You'll never stop a thief.  My goal is to simply make it less attractive to steal and let insurance cover the rest.  Ya can't make it a huge inconvenience for you to cover the one off chance someone wants to take your kayak.

As purdy as my yak may be I’m gonna cover it so it is not heavily crying out “if you can grab it it’s yours”.  Insurance is a necessary evil...

I dunno. The webbing is always the weakest link in roof-top security. Without scupper holes I don’t see how you would be able to securely  lock it to anything at all. I would think that the size of the beast would be deterrent enough.  It’s not a snatch and scram item for a small car, takes thought and preparation.

I mean if you were in a real pickle, you could leave the windows slightly ajar and run a locking cable through the car, er I mean mighty adventure machine/mobile aquarium!!

For sure.  I'm just saying there's a balance between your personal inconvenience and theft deterrence (since prevention is impossible).  When I'm parking outside with the yak on the rack, I run a simple cable lock through one scupper and around one of the cross bars.  I try to keep the lock itself visible so someone sees what they're signing up for and hopefully decides against it.

Yes sir!  Just gettin' it all out...truly not paranoid and eventually resigned to gettin' back to reality...simple tricks to deter and leave the rest to wisdom.  There are no through scuppers on this model and I'm gettin' creative.  The bare roof is the main starting point.  I woke this morning to an image of not installing the rack properly and seeing the whole thing fly off the top. It's obviously got me twirling in the head.  Like you say though, keep it simple...especially in the mind...stay tuned.... :smt006

You nailed the dilemma, no scupper holes, no stock rails, very light snatchable kayak.  The Malone webbing goes through the vehicle at the rear cracked window and through the top door jams of the front.  Awkward to grab racks and yak without ruining the yak but we will conquer.  It's probably more simple than I'm making it but brainstorming it out sure helps, thanks all you
