Yes it's a washing machine.  My best advice, admitedly biased is, if you can't paddle in it, no combination of sails or pedals or trolling mortors will guarantee safety. Being as sure as possible about conditions, and paying attention as the conditions change unexpectedly (and they will) is the best bet. I'd suggest a LOT of experience before using Moss landing as a lauch/land location, wear a wetsuitprf and have your radio on you, and be willing to take it in north or south of the jetty, willing to lose all your equipment if that  is what it takes.

And, I am not sayig this just as an old craky asshole.  I was saying this even as a young cranky asshole.

Bushy, scallen (look it up)

3 times I've launched there to chase salmon, we went out and came back with the tide, weather was perfect so it was flat as a lake.  If anybody went out on days like this, they would not know how dangerous this spot can be.  Luckily I have been out of there on a boat many times and have seen how gnarly it can get so definitely went as prepared as possible and we definitely lucked out on the conditions, but not the fishing.  :smt005

I have no experience kayaking out of Moss and have only boated out of it a handful of times almost 2 decades ago now, but I will say that the only time I've ever seen a great white in person was while surfing the north jetty...

Makes falling out of your kayak there sound even less appealing. :smt044

For surfing we are keeping close tabs on conditions, which is fairly easy to do nowadays

That is one of the spots where tide runs are pretty incredible, I would advise anyone new to the place to look at that ahead of time

As I said, I swam there twice coming in one afternoon and not the unexciting kind of swimming, another time had doubts whether I could make it in. Probably would’ve been smarter to fish longer and wait out the tide run before coming in. The rollers were very close steep and chaotic, 6-8 feet of fun ones. A guy went past on an epic, out just for the fun of it

All three of my kayaks are set up to be very manageable in situations like that. On both those occasions it was outgoing so leave it to the imagination what could go wrong if you were separated from your yak for instance

I always liked a little random adventure with my salmon but am too old for it now so would plan better if I do get out there again

Long way round to saying watch the swell and tides, more important there than most places
