Does anyone use the Scotty Anchor Lock? I have seen the Scotty surface mount affixed to the stern of the Prowler 13 where the rudder would normally be and the anchor lock positioned at that point. How easy is it to release/retract the anchor line while sitting in the cockpit? Won't the line catch/stick when pulling it at an angle (center stern to right or left hand of the paddler) to reposition the anchor?

I also have line and stainless steel snap carabiners to create an anchor trolley, but the anchor would be deployed to one side or the other of the kayak about 1-2 feet in from the stern.

Before I start drilling, I would appreciate comments and suggestions. I will be using an 8- to 10-lb. anchor in freshwater.

Janice the Scotty is kind of large, Sean and I are using jam cleats for sailboat rigging. It is small and a quick release for safety. I use it to hold my drift anchor, sturgeon anchor, and drift sock.
10lbs. is what we use in a winter flow river, in a lake you can use quite a bit less.

I'm getting ready to put  an anchor system on my Tarpon 13T. J there are some great articles here on the board. Do a quick search. I found some good info researching river anchor systems (the Sac river scares me) so if anybody's interested

Thanks for the input, folks. I decided to install an anchor trolley that I tried out at Santa Margarita Lake this past weekend with a 1.5-lb. anchor. The trolley works great, but I need to get a heavier anchor because my kayak still drifted too much. Pimping the yak is SO much fun!
